Fighter jet over Fourways/JHB north

It is simply awesome to see this type of hardware make an appearance.

A few years ago I stood on the flightline at Swartkop and watched a display by a Grippen, the taxi out, display and the taxi back past the crowd.

I have seen a few since but that was my first and the arms deal was hot on the press at the time. It was just wonderful to see.
There was a gent next to me with his very young son and the expression on this kids face, seeing and hearing this aircraft, just made my day completely.
We struck up a conversation about my camera, the displays and the arms deal. We both just laughed and were bursting with pride at seeing this remarkable piece of engineering in front of us. Both just South Africans of different races looking on with pride.

I remember watching many displays, of Mirages and Cheetahs as a kid and know how that positively influenced me.
I'm pretty sure the impression it left on that youngster was no different.
The biggest sadness is we don't get to see them nearly enough as the paying public/taxpayers of this country.

Ooh! Can so totally relate! ;)

Swartkop is probably my favourite one these days. Good flight line access and parking not too much of a headache.

Last year "Midnight" finished his display with a pull into the vertical, hard roll and full flare deployment. Orgasmic. :)

Yip normal in cpt where i live they are out flying a couple times a year already seen them twice this year

Well colour me totally unimpressed.

This was so loud that I was certain a plane was crashing in my suburb.

It flew at least 3 circles around us, unannounced and out of the blue. It's the loudest thing I've ever heard in the environment - and I've been to Farnborough a couple of times.

Every instinct was urging me to gather my loved ones up and dive under cover, but instead I ran outside and swore like a trooper.

You sound like one of those people having a **** fit when they accidentally broke the sound barrier over Cape Town a few years ago.

I thought it was awesome, others I guess who didn't know what it was claimed to have "feared for their lives" due to the earthquake like resonance.

Especially scary when they come up or down low on the N1 and you ride a bike.

Feels like it is really right above your head and just not the same in a car.
