Fighting crime using high-tech cameras

Nashua, RSS, TRSS, and OSM have joined forces in a new initiative to combat hijackings, armed robberies, and smash-and-grabs on William Nicol Drive in Johannesburg.

In recent years William Nicol Drive has become a crime hotspot, with a spate of incidents at intersections along the road.

Do they have battery backups?

I doubt there are any real concerns about privacy. These systems have intelligence built in to focus on potential crime situations, and are mostly black-screen systems which only react when something is detected which can be an issue.

We have a similar setup for our Road.
8 IP Camera's in total covering most of the roads entrances and different points along the road.
Connected to Raspbery Pi 3's and Intel Neural Compute Sticks doing ML.
If a person is detected between 10pm - 6am then pictures of person is sent to a Telegram group that everyone in the road is on.

One of the guys in our road put it together and runs the whole thing.

Also works with IP Cameras starting at R1500, We do have a few of the Hikvision Night Fighter Lite's for darker areas.

Been running for 6months now and getting good results.
