Figure 8 power cords

I only needed two so that’s what I wired into to the plug.

I read somewhere that wiring two cables into one plug is not legal but I can't find the reference. Maybe find out from a qualified electrician if that is allowed.
Insurance companies would probably invalidate a claim if your house burns down due to illegal wiring.

You can wire whatever you like in the way you like it, solong it is plugged in at wall socket.

That is the purpose of the the earth leakage and breakers in your fixed installation.

Insurance can moan about lighting protection.

I'm not so sure about that.
That would imply that a "dead man's cable" from a generator plugged into a wall socket is okay which is certainly not the case.

I’m not saying that is ok, but you can if you want to!

When the regulations were put in place, they took into account that the people using electricity in the home may know nothing, and can make mistakes when wiring their appliances.
The whole SABS 0142 (Installation rules) revolve about safety first, so buildt into the installation is protection. (For the installation and for the user)

That is why I said, solong it is plugged in at wall socket, you can do what you want.

It would be a serious problem if you wire something to the fixed installation, and you did something wrong, because then you may have bypassed the protection, and yes then burning down the house wouldn’t be paid by insurance.

That is the reason you have to get a installation certificate everytime you buy a house, to be sure the previous people didn’t tamper with the installation, and that all the protection work as they should.

This is literally the only 'odd' homemade thing we'd have now. Apart from removing two point plugs and adding three point plugs, which I think a lot of people do.

Ok great. I have my wiring certificate. Had it done after we expanded the plugs and lights and so forth. Everything is on standard and safe as far as direct wiring goes in the house. This is literally the only 'odd' homemade thing we'd have now. Apart from removing two point plugs and adding three point plugs, which I think a lot of people do.

If I were you, I wouldn’t spend money on special adaptors, I would cut of all the 2 pin plugs and join it in a normal 3 prong plug, it is neat, does the job and didn’t cost money, and fully legal.

The Figure 8 cables only have a Live and Neutral, and you can connect it anyway arround, the Bwana solution is perfect, you can easily do 5 cables per plug. I’ll use a small cable tie in the plug to keep the cables from not pulling out from the plug.

If you really want/need the moulded cables, PM me and I’ll help to get it couriered to you in the new year when everything is open again.

I joined 2 figure 8 cables into one plug.

I also thought of using a cable tie to keep the cables together close to the plug.
My only fuss is getting that many cables into the prongs. It gets very thick.

I normally strip the cables longer, and before twisting the strands add all of the cables together, then twist, and touch with solder, then cut to lenth.

Other option is to have one piece going from plug to tv cabinet, and then join the cables and put heat shrink over. This is my notebook bag cable, and extras so I can power everything from one dedicated plug.

Ok yes, that sounds like an idea, having the one cable go to the cabinet.
