Hi Guys,

I want to create a server to do file sharing so that all info is held on one pc so that i don't constantly have to have problems with the current pc's in the house and getting info off of them, anyone got any ideas whats best to use?

I am currently trying Ubuntu Server 8.1, but i can't find much info on it.

Thanx Guys
Peder

For a free, quick and easy server setup, try SME Server from contribs.org

I use it at my house, works quite well :)

And it's easy to setup.

Depending if your other machines run Windows, a paid option may be Windows Home Server. The bugs were sorted out, and it's quite popular. Worth a look if you have a bit of spare cash.

i opened the file with
Code:
sudo nano /etc/samba/smb.conf

My next problem is that i don't know how to mount drives:confused:, i think i am gonna stick with Ubuntu Server as i am learning quite quick and quite enjoying it. (to the detriment of my schoolwork)

i cannot seem to get the folders to open on another computer, it shares and all and i can see them but it won't give me access to them anyone got an idea?

Also when i try to create a user like in the tutorial it won't work :(

If you are using FreeNAS then i've also had the same issue.
It has to do with Read/Write permissions in your admin account.
Creating user accounts are also a problem.

I ended up creating 1 single admin account, with a username & password and accessing the files with that single account only...
