Hi all,

Scenario:

Laptop A - Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Laptop B - Windows 10 64-bit ( I think it's home )
External 1TB hard drive

All 3 devices have the same files on them. Folders in Documents etc

What I need:

Whenever a file is changed / edited / removed on either Laptop A, B or the external, it must sync to the other two devices automatically over a LAN or internet connection.

Example:

I edit mybroadband.doc on laptop A. I want the edited file to sync / copy to Laptop B automatically. It must update Laptop B with the new edited file. Whenever I plug in the external, it must detect the external and automatically update / sync any files that were changed on either Laptop A or B and sync / replace them on the external.

Is there a program that can do this?

What about OneDrive? That should work just as well correct?

Because this client's home LAN has so many disconnections or problems it's a mission syncing over the LAN.

Would it be better for him to upload whatever files he works on to OneDrive and then just edit / delete from there? And when he is done he can just access the file again from wherever correct?

Only downside is if he has no internet he is kinda screwed right?

Haven't used one drive.
Dropbox has a local folder which is synced when online. So if you change files at the same time on different computers there will be problems. With no internet as long as the syncing is kept in mind it shouldn't be a problem.

If you are having disconnections on the LAN...how do you think it's going to get any better with the internet?

I would fix that problem first.

But a synced folder permanently on OneDrive would be the best bet. Even better if you just use the built-in Office 365 collaboration functions so it gets live updated like that.

I use google drive.

I set it up to point to my external from my main computer at home. I have a laptop which I travel with, the moment I copy a file to google drive, it syncs on the computer at home, then into the external.

Basically what everyone is saying.

Thank you to everyone. Client went with the OneDrive option.
