Hey guys,

I am looking for a free alternative to Filebot File renamer for movies, TV shows, music etc.

I have been using an old version of Filebot for a long time but it is starting to give issues with scraping info from TMDB and TVDB.

Any Suggestions besides manually renaming, which will take hours

Sonarr for series, Radarr for movies. While these are used mostly for managing downloads, they do have a builtin file renamer for stuff added to their respectve libraries. Tinymediamanager is another option that covers both.

For music, most recommend Musicbrainz Picard but I like to do it more manually via Foobar2000.

Both of those are pretty clunky to use just for renaming stuff if you have no prior experience with them.
Filebot was so easy to use

I found a fork of it on GitHub Here

Apparently it works without the need for subscription. I will check it out tonight at home.

Yeah not great for renaming stuff when you have an existing stuff acquired all over the place...but once it becomes the primary way of managing this stuff it all just becomes automatic with no need to ever get involved again unlike Filebot.

Import your stuff once and the job is done, then attach your downloaders to it and it all becomes automatic.

Add Ombi and you can just search your items in Plex and add it to your Watchlist and you never need to look at either interface again.

might be the same one I'm using - used to work great but now it doesn't rename different series in one batch
I am currently using v7.9.7 which is the last Opensource version afaik. Just suddenly it started not working.

Unfortunately, that will not work with my setup. I only rename once I have copied the data to the external drives I use with my TV box. The original content stays in the original location for x amount of days.

Time for that NAS. :)

Oh yeah getting over that initial hurdle is painful but once you are there it's magical.
I will attempt it when I have a lot of free time again.

I used to use a Pi with OSMC (A Kodi OS) and set it up to use uPNP to share the database. It was hit and miss on a regular basis on my TV Box, so I ditched it and just added a powered USB hub to the MiBox and set up Kodi on it.

Tried Plex for a short time but it was not for me.

I've got 3.7TB worth of share, I renamed everything manually including removing stupid full stops between every word and adding dates of releases.

Take some time to do it manually and then you will have it up to date then you just need to rename a few at a time.

Best method is to copy up to the episode number then paste when renaming with F2 and punch in the episode number.

EG, Game of Thrones - S04 E0

I used to do that, but that is why I got an automatic renamer.

Also, what is nice, it ads the actual episode name ie NCIS S21 E10 · Reef Madness and so on.

But why? You can just stream anything you want to watch.

Oh wait, nope, nope you cannot, not even if you pay for every single streaming service and cycle each region with a VPN, even if it's available now, it won't be tomorrow, for some reason.

Also, "pirating" is more often than not much less of a schlep than paid services, 123movies has seldom let me down.

Last update in 2019 on the fork, not optimistic.
It works like a bomb!

I downloaded the portable version just to test, and it works better than the installed version I already have.

On the version I have installed, I could only scrape from The Movie Database for both movies and TV shows. This version has all the databases working. I am a happy chappie :p

In my case, I am a collector of sorts, yes I do download stuff that I don't find on the 3 streaming services I pay for, but I collect older TV Shows that are no longer being broadcast, or new seasons made, as far as I know. Some I watch and delete, others I keep for nostalgic purposes.

The streaming services are more used by my wife and the rest of the household than me. I rarely find things that really catches my attention, like Bosch on Amazon to name but one.

I am feeling I am getting too old for all this "woke" schit that is lately available

Thanks I’ll give it a try.
That being said with Plex or Jellfin normally you just chuck the as downloaded obscenely badly named file/folder into the correct folder(Movies, series etc) and it’s good to go, you see everything perfectly named an arranged once you browse using the Plex or Jellyfin interface. Either of those is truly a game changer, in my opinion at least, major one being able to pick up where you were last watching on any device, start on the TV and then finish on the tablet.

I ran a Plex server on a Raspberry Pi 4 and it did not always work well with the app on my MiBox.

I have Kodi installed on the MiBox, and it will add the files with correct names, but sometimes it just misbehaves(especially if there is a sample file in the mix - I sometimes forget to remove all the extra folders) Also, I like it when it is nicely named :p It brings joy to my heart
