Good evening/day

Just thought I would tap the information pool here, and maybe find someone to point me in the right direction...

So after waiting a couple of days I got Telkom to up my line speed. but now every time I do A speed test (Mybroadband/Speedtest.net) I barely go above 2/2.2 Meg, and my downloads also seem to be at around the 200/220 kbps...

I made a note of these stats before the upgrade, when I was still on the 2 Meg line (Belkin N100)

type interleave
status showtime

downstream upstream
data (kbps) 2041 511
noise margin 17 6
output power (dBm) 125 44
attenuation (dB) 35 26

Currently they are (after upgrade)

type fast path
status showtime

downstream upstream
data (kbps) 4096 448
noise margin 12 5
output power (dBm) 123 168
attenuation (dB) 32 28

I tried the usual restart, with expected results... Is a call center call called for? All my lines and isp are with Telkom, I am based in Durban, Bluff

Thanks in advance

Kind regards

Thank you very much for the feedback gents :)

@yebocan: I have a capped account with Telkom, 4 Meg 2/2.2 meg on speedtest.net

So I assume by the comments that the limited information displayed by the modem on the line, that the line itself is not the problem? and that it might me a "system/setting" fault on their (telkom) side

They changed from interleave to fast path, might that be part of the problem? as from what I can see it was the biggest change between the stats before and after the "upgrade"

My connection (as far as I know) does not drop or anything funny, phone does not work, but I am not sure if that's the phone or a line issue... never checked it out as I never use it, will look into a new phone (handy for call center)

Logged online fault for what its worth, will call them in the new week

Thanks for all the help and any future help

Try a different ISP if you can.
Try Telkom's own speed test as well for reference: http://rosebank.spdtst.saix.net/

Regarding the upstream SNR: Modems usually drop sync when the SNR falls below 6. Strictly speaking (for ADSL2+ only), a 3dB SNR is the absolute not negotiable minimum required to hold a sync (google it :D)
Some modems require a 'tweak' where you specify the absolute minimum allowed SNR, to allow it to keep sync below 6, some just 'deal with it' (D-LINK seems to deal with it, others probably too). (this tweak is never on a web screen, you need to TELNET into the modem)

But, in the end of the day, 5dB SNR is really poor; expect frequent disconnects.

Managed to phone Telkom today...

So the reason that I could not go above 2/2.2 meg was due to the fact that "the upgrade was not completed" so they finalized it, and told me that when I get home to restart the router and I should be fine

Spoke to them in regards to the bad line stats "we will phone you back after a line test" guessing that will never happen, will see but somehow highly doubt it

So will have a look and post update
