Hey all,

wondering if there's anyone here that assist.

A friend, who's South African and living abroad, would like to buy a car in South Africa for her family to use; she's been told that since her salary is paid into a foreign bank account, no one here will give her financing (neither for a car, nor for a bond).

Is this really the case?

Yes they would want to see some ZAR in a local account and a credit record to be able to finance the car.

African bank might finance it at some stupid rate under a personal loan.

She might be better off trying to get a personal loan in the country she is, transfer the funds to SA so they can pay cash. Interest rates will be lower.

Yeah banks have in issue with financing people who are not from here. I actually managed to purchase my current car because the guy who was first in line was not from the country and thus couldn't secure finance.

Drat, I was hoping she'd been misinformed.

Thanks for the help!

When I bought my car 2 weeks back, I didn't have my licence as it was stolen.

I told them I'm buying the car for my wife and she will be driving, they said no, I have to provide my licence.

So apart from having to just finance the car, does she have a valid SA licence ?

Lost case unfortunately ...

I've never had a SA license - purchasing a car has not been an issue, nor has financing one.
