So, Someone decided to use the 10 finger discount on my iPad...

Realised this morning, as i thought it was in my laptop bag, and only realised after i got to work this morning.

So i logged onto iCloud, and opened the App...

It showed that my iPad was a few block up from my work, on Fox street in jo'burg.

I locked it, and put a message that asked the person to call me if found.

I then took a walk up there with one of my colleagues.

The building is abandoned, well, half so... only 1 of the 5 floors is used by people renting, the others are empty...

So we walked through every floor, trying to make the iPad make a noise using the app...

We couldn't find anything though, which sucks, because i know its there, but just can't find it...

Now my question, when you click the "Play Sound" button on the App, what sound does the iPad make, and does it constantly make the noise, or will you need to keep clicking the button?

Also, will it make a difference that my iPad is on silent?

Thanks

Silent shouldn't make a difference... and it makes a high pitched ringing sound.

Is the ringing constant until you put in the code, or would you have to make it ring mutiple times while looking for it?

Thanks for the info so far... the alert that plays for 2 minutes, any idea what it sounds like on an ipad?

The thief must have it wrapped in blankets so you cant hear it, wait a while (when he takes it out) then use play sound again, also how accurate is that GPS tracker? To how many Metres?

Thats what i was thinking, so i have no way of hearing it...
It still has 43 odd % left, so should last a few more days...

I wanted to stay there, but had to come back to work...

Im not sure what to do...

They're idiot thieves but they're going to figure out how to turn it off and give it to someone who can wipe it. I wasn't so lucky with my iPhone, the person turned it off on the spot and it was locked so he knew you can just hold the power power button till it goes off.

That's exactly why I have apps like iGotya installed on my devices. If more people used the available apps that are out there that make it almost impossible and very risky to use a stolen device, it would make it less and less desirable to steal and so much easier to recover. My phone regularly (4 times a day) updates me via email of it's coordinates (I tend to leave my phone at friend's houses a lot) and displays a friendly message on start-up of how to return the phone to me if found.

@OP: Good luck recovering your device. Right royal pain in the arse but at least you have made use of apps to make it possible :)

That's one thing that's a great new feature of iOS 7. If you factory restore a phone you need to activate it with the original itunes account before you can use it again. Any iOS device going forward that has find my iPhone installed when stolen is going to have no resale value (except for parts).

So, i suggest you guys don't trust this app the much...

When i eventually got to my car late last night, lo and behold, my iPad was in the car...

Its so weird, because the iPad showed that it was almost a km away from my car, in an abandoned building...

And half way through the day it even changed locations for a while...

Thanks though for all the help and info guys, greatly appreciated.

I have noticed the accuracy on all the different maps that I use show between 10m on a good day to 1.3km...

Surely then your iPad would have followed you around the whole day then? Or don't you travel around much in the day?
