Firecracker offered to boy as cigarette explodes in his face

Poor kid. But 12 year old at a McDonald's at 2am? What's going on there?

Exploding cigarettes are hardly a new prank. I'm not sure it's fair to assume that putting someone in hospital was the desired result.

Poor kid

The "prank" took place in the early hours of Sunday

Would bet he was intoxicated, I mean how stupid must you be?

Two Port Elizabeth men who allegedly gave a young boy a firecracker and told him to light it – causing it to explode in his face – have been released on R500 bail each following a brief appearance in the city’s magistrate’s court on Tuesday afternoon.

Sebastian, 27, and Demane Pillay, 25, face a charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

I hope the 3 get the full brunt of the law thrown at them and NO special treatment due to the one father being a SAPS Officer.

I also hope the lighty recovers fully

Pretty sure the prank versions are designed to force the explosion away from the mouth/face.

Doubt it if the cops are talking attempted murder. Maybe if they figure out a charge that won't be impossible to prove.

Agreed, maybe on purpose to get kicked out or something because it's definitely not attempted murder.

You mean commercially available versions? Probably. I'm guessing they emptied out a cigarette, stuck a cracker in it and did there best to make it look like a cigarette again.

My point is that it could be a case of stupidity as easily as it could a genuine desire to seriously harm someone.

There's a huge difference between these things:

And the kind of firecrackers available these days. The latter are like miniature bombs.

We used to do the same to my uncles.

But back in the day we only had those green and red tom thumb crackers. You had to roll out the Tabaco, put in the cracker and then put the Tabaco back and compress it with the back of a pencil. Hours of work for one small bang...

But with the crackers of today, no farking way in hell. You will blow someone's head off.

His devastated and angry grandparents James Witbooi, 61, and Beatrice, 62 -who look after the boy said they were glad he was alive after he went missing on Saturday afternoon.

Angry because you didn't look after him correctly? I would love to know how the kid went "missing".

The three brothers from Summerstrand - the sons of a police colonel, all in their 20s - have now been linked to an investigation of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, which could be changed to attempted murder.

Maybe they'll grow up some day...
