my first gripe is that the last tab open has no close button... not even when you right click on the last tab. Sometimes I want to close the last tab for privacy sake or just tidiness... but leave Firefox open to finish the downloads. Try it. You can't close the last tab open. You used to be able to do that quite easily in Firefox 3.0.x

I can... I have an "x" on every tab....

no you dummy - close the entire firefox - you're downloads are in a seperate window!

I fixed it with this guy's post from the above link...

Code:
/* Add tab-close-button to last tab*/
.tabbrowser-tabs[closebuttons="alltabs"] >
 .tabbrowser-tab > .tab-close-button {
  display: -moz-box !important;
 }
.tabbrowser-tabs:not([closebuttons="noclose"]):not([closebuttons="closeatend"]) >
 .tabbrowser-tab[selected="true"] > .tab-close-button {
  display: -moz-box !important;
 }
That's a copy/paste of my whole userChrome.css, which has to be in the "chrome" folder of the profile you use.
My about:config settings are:
browser.tabs.closeButtons = 1
browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab = false

That's at least what works in my installation. With those settings you should have the "close" cross, even when there's only one tab left and if you close the last tab, you should get a blank page.
Together with the NewTabURL add-on, you can let the FF open your starting page or any URL you name in the extension (which then is opened for any new tab; I chose my starting page, which is Speed Dial).

As I said, that's at least what works fine for me.

Here is the NewTabURL add-on!

Your Chrome folder is located in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<ProfileName>\Chrome\

You have to create a new file in that folder with this name "userChrome.css"

sorry you dummy :p ... they are at the bottom of my Firefox Window where I like them... using the Download StatusBar add-on. I don't like to fiddle with the seperate download window. That seperate download window is a pain. Get Download StatusBar rather. You can control everything from there.

And that's a separate issue to the fact that they changed the behaviour of the last tab. I want it back the way it was. :cool:

Anyway... it's fixed now.

sorry, didn't know you were using other downloaders hehe

I retract my statement. you sir, are not a dummy.

These are all the extensions I am currently using... :)

Adblock Plus
Download Statusbar
DownThemAll!
Flagfox
FlashGot
Forecastbar Enhanced
FoxClocks
Google Toolbar
NewTabURL
Screengrab
StumbleUpon
Xmarks

Gary, you should use NOScript. It's way better than Adblock Plus.

Ja, I am aware of it, but it is too intrusive in my opinion. There is some stuff I want to see. I got tired of trying to configure every web page I go to to enable Flash content I want to see. Adblock Plus is nice middle medium.

Yeah, it is a bit annoying sometimes :)

As a nice alternative to NoScript... consider this customised HOSTS file which is updated monthly and blocks all known parasite pages and hijacked or adware websites...

The nice thing about that HOSTS file is that it works across all browsers and your entire system.

BugMeNot
Cooliris
Fireftp
Flagfox
ImgLikeOpera (for when your out of bandwidth and need to hide images)
Personas for firefox (for when your bored of the same old...)

I remember that when I used a big host file it took longer for my browser to open. Was it just me?

Edit: nope not just me: http://www.google.co.za/search?hl=e...ZA326&q=host+file+slow+down&btnG=Search&meta=

What was the name of that addon that made each tab like rotate when you browse between them?

Thats why I still stick with good old Firefox 2. Simple, yet brilliant.

Ok, your choice, I have always got the latest FireFox when it's released, or just after. No regrets yet. Was tempted to try Chrome when it came out, but would miss my addons, and don't think there was a Linux version initially.
