Firefox 3 record download attempt hampered by server overload

I really don't see how this is going to go into the record books with such a flawed counting system. Bad form Mozilla :(

I'm told 80.4% of the downloads came from Zanu-PF supporters and Opera is claiming IE is a white colonialist who is undermining their webpages.:D
 
at least ONE bloke in Niger decided to put his country on the map, and two blokes from democratic republic of congo realised they had to BOTH download it to beat Niger.

However, their attempts were overshadowed by the strong representation of the 17 kind folks of Madagascar.

Still none for Turkmenistan and Tajikistan. :confused: The Somalis aren't game either.
 
So do I, but last night was a stuff up. "Download FF3" kept redirecting me to FF2 until I decided to try the british site. Well done England, you got it right from the start!

Or, they (Mozilla Europe) just didn't have millions of people hitting their web site in a very short span of time.

Granted, they (Mozilla US) really should have foreseen the volume of traffic they were going to get (especially considering how heavily the download day was promoted) and done something about it in terms of capacity. The mirrors that hosted the actual setup file were fine, but a lot of people probably wanted to go through Mozilla to make their download count against the world record attempt (including me). I see that the Mozilla site, once you get through to it and hit the download link, actually sends you the file from a mirror site anyway! :rolleyes:

They're already at over 6.5M records as of now, which is fantastic: http://www.spreadfirefox.com/en-US/worldrecord

It annoyed me a little bit that the (Windows) release was the same build date as RC2 (for Windows) which I was already using... But at least it's finally gone gold, and I did my part to support the world record ;)

DownThemAll!
Undo Closed Tabs Button

Don't think I could stand surfing the net without them :D Enjoy!

The link sent out in the Download Day e-mail was to the Mozilla US web site, not Mozilla Europe. Consequently, Mozilla Europe probably saw a lot less traffic.

As Syndyre says, it's a download manager integrated entirely into Firefox... Supports multi-threading of downloads, downloading links and/or images off of web pages you have open (you can configure what objects it downloads), etc. I think it is very, very good (especially if you want to suck the most speed out of your DSL connection)

This is always a pain. I prefer to do a 'clean install' every time a new version is released to keep my browser lightweight and running in top form :) On a side note, addons.mozilla.org was down all of yesterday and this morning... Where's the Europe mirror for that? ;)
 
If you are going to install DownThemAll, then you should also get FlashGot... they work very nicely together.

FlashGot has this option where you can give it one image... eg. image001.jpg

and it will build a gallery of all the images in the range from 001 to 099.

Then you can save them all in one go.

It's great for when you are wanting to download lots of... um... animal pictures :rolleyes:
