Was just thinking that I've been using this add-on for some time now and absolutely love it. I've
forgotten that it's not actually part of firefox.
It simulates the little hand like you get in adobe acrobat.

What add-ons do you guys have to share that you couldn't live without?

EDIT : to remove the hand for highlighting text etc. just double click on some text and afterwards double click on non-text to return to drag mode.

Adblock Plus!

No MORE ADDS!

I can’t imagine life without it. When I get to another PC without it, I get reminded how much it actually blocks!

Thanx for that one :)

Auto Shutdown is also great, shuts down the pc after downloads are finished
Redirect Remover - removes redirects from links and images
Clip extractor - for youtube videos also worthwhile
Flashgot download helper is nice.

Now if only there was a work around to eliminate Google analytics from Firefox , havent been able to find anything that prevents it from loading yet.

Here are my favourite:

Adblock plus is a must!
Greasemonkey is pretty sweet. It allows you to customise pretty much any website with user created scripts. Check out some scripts here. Also checkout Stylish.
Xmarks does a good job of backing up your bookmarks.
Download Statusbar is a saviour. I got sick and tired of the FF download window. This moves the download window to the status bar. Much better.
DownThemAll! is a must if you download a lot in your browser. Its a download manager and accelerator. Much more reliable than the standard FF downloader.

edit: forgot about Read It Later. It allows you to save pages for reading later. you then click its icon and choose what you've saved, or visit a random saved page.

Here's something I must share with everyone and works in most browsers. Its called Readability (don't click it, right-click save link and bookmark it). Readability allows you read content on a website in a better (and unobtrusive) way than websites show it by default. Here is an example: click here (some random iol.co.za article), once the page has loaded, click the Readability bookmark you made and see the difference. Huge difference! This has never failed me on any site I've visited.

You can try Ghostery - http://www.ghostery.com
Have not actually tried it with Google Analytics, but have blocked several other little tracker scripts that really annoy me. Give it a shot. Its also quite interesting to see which companies are tracking each page you visit (which it does with a little overlay window over the browser page).

Not an add on, but the one improvement I've made thats totally worth it is to assign Close Tab (CTRL-W) to a mouse button. I miss it within seconds of using FF on another PC. Surprisingly it also closes (some) other apps too.

There is also this extention, but had not been updated since 2008.

Both of you, thanks a mil :)

Found and edited host file, and also found that adblocker actually has a setting to block G-A

Discovered that during the Seacom Saga often pages were wanting to connect to G-A and hanging on the connection or slowing down my browsing of pages, so been looking in all the wrong places, should have known better and just asked here :o

Once again, thank you

I've got a Firefox plug-in that tweaks your results when you google - a lot of the times when I search for links, I get fake websites at the top of the list - not any more! I completely block them from my Search results!

If you are really interested to do this, I will get the name for you. I just can't remember it now though...

Yes please Keeper, sounds handy.

Besides already mentioned ones, I find these helpful:
Update Scanner
Session Manager

Not an add on, but MailBrowserBackup (http://alancla.110mb.com/) is an incredible backup tool for FF (and others).
It backs up everything into one file (add-ons, extensions, cookies, passes, history, bookmarks, settings, greasemonkey scripts - everything!).

You can backup to single file, reformat your machine or install FF on a new machine and restore your backup and don't have to do anything else...very effective.

I use FEBE. It also backs up everything, but individual files are created for your addons so you can choose which one to install. Also scheduled backups etc.

Firegestures and Smoothwheel also make the experience better!
