Lately My Firefox has been freezing every 2-4 minutes for about 10-20 seconds each time, It wont let me do anything, and If I try , its becomes "not responding" but after 10-20 seconds its over, it was happening about a week ago, then its stopped, now its happening again

I have FF 3.6.3 and win7 32bit Ultimate

downloading 3.6.9 ATM....

sorry, My FF still beats Chrome :p

I've changed between FF and Chrome a couple times over the last 6 months. I'm back to Chrome again. FF is good for some stuff, Chrome is faster at everything (and doesn't crash/hog resources/hang)

chrome does not have secure passwords, and you can look at all the saved passwords, where firefox you can set a master password to protect this.

btw. my firefox at work has also been freezing, and i was using beta4. i have now gone back to 3.6 and it seems fine. you can try and run it in safemode, and reset all the functionality, as sometimes something is causing it to crash. maybe also look at the plugins you have.

Maybe try uninstalling or disabling any recently installed add-ons.

I know some add-ons can cause Firefox to not even run anymore.

Never trust a browser to save your passwords, even if you use a master password.
Rather look at something like LastPass or KeePass.

If you have a lot of tabs open it'll cause Firefox to stall (memory usage/fragmentation).
If you have a tab open that uses a plugin (e.g. an embedded Flash animation) that can also slow the browser down.
If you leave FFox open for too long (I'm talking a matter of weeks... Window 7 hibernate is awesome), without restarting it, it will suffer memory fragmentation and also start freezing.

Unfortunately the memory manager used by Firefox is not the greatest.

I upgraded my Firefox to 4.0 beta 5 today, have been using 4.0 since beta 1 and am quite impressed with it - only issue I had was the Aero glass effect becoming corrupted, but that's fixed since beta 4. Haven't had any crashes either, so I highly recommend it as an upgrade.

when i had that problem it turned out to be the flash plugin.... had to revert to an older version to get it fixed

I started a thread about the same problem. It turned out to be my Mcafee Site Advisor plugin thingy.

So my bet is to start with the plugins/extras and see if one of them is causing this.

But I haven't added any plugins in months...

Had that problem too, uninstalled and installed Firefox 4 beta 5 and it is working better than ever.

Firefox 4 beta 5 becomes dog slow whenever I open more than two tabs.

I will be switching back to IE and possibly start using IE9 if the Firefox 4 final release is as slow as the beta.

does not compute...

Figgerd out the problem, the digg toolbar :(

I had the same issue, after it began responding it would open a new tab that pointed at www._getwindowinfo.com or something. Turns out it was a virus or malware. Got rid of it and all is well again.
