You guys are all doing it wrong. In Chrome
Thanks.

I'm finding generally Chrome runs a lot faster and have had a few sites that always bring Firefox to a halt. Have been using mostly Chrome for the past two weeks (google drive integration is much better than FF) so am happy to get the search thing sorted out and start settling in.

Glad to help. Also bear in mind you can add many more than the few default ones. Wikipedia, RARBG, Pirate Bay, Extra Torrents, IMDB etc all easy to add. Just Google for their search addresses. Only sometimes they are added automatically to the search list.

I've been caught by both where the system crashed and all my tabs were gone. Opera (pre Chropera) would at least open what it could read and it's easy to make backups besides the default backup. Also other browsers that use the engines. Haven't managed to really figure out which files store the data as for some reason when I restore individual files it starts with a clean session. The only solution is to backup the entire folder.

Can't comprehend how in this age there's no browser that's configurable, fault tolerant and just works without any issues.

Edge! I have not had a browser crash since win 10 version 1607installed.

With Chrome , had 3 browser crashes in the same period. Edge just works, no hassles.

Looking forward to the new versions of Edge in the Win 10 Creators version when it starts to become available as an update in SA. Checking the evaluation of Edge 15 shows some improvement over Edge 14 but not much though. One strange backtrack is H.265 Support. Removed in the new version of Edge.

But we have digressed from OPs original post somewhat. Surely one is stuck with what is available on a PC in an Internet café?

I've been using Chrome forever. I tried Firefox but it's just not the same.

I like how all my stuff is synced across all devices including history, passwords, and bookmarks. I also like the fact that you can emulate mobile devices etc.

I can't really find anything wrong with it.

I do not like the synch across devices function every much. I find it annoying when trying to clean up the junk that accumulates. Have disabled it. I prefer to restrict access on some devices as part of my data usage control strategy, which dictates that certain "stuff" is only accessed when at home on my ADSL account and others are only used when mobile.

My 2c?

For development I use Firefox. It just seems to me that when Chrome is used as the base client for development and testing that you end up with bits and pieces of code that work in Chrome but don't work in IE or Firefox, etc. When I develop things in Firefox it just seems that stuff works on all other browsers so i'd be at a hazard to say that Firefox conforms better to general web standards and Chrome seems a bit more like IE with their crazy ideas on how things should work.

This being said... Chrome is a hang of a lot faster for general usage, noting this more day by day.

if anything crashes your entire history is gone.

There is an addon that I use called Session Manager. If this annoys you then you'll never have the problem ever again. If the browser crashes you can then load all your tabs up as it was before the crash.

It used to be that anything developed in IE, it will work in any other browser?

The latest html5test websites rates the browsers compliance with standards as follows:

Edge 14: 460 points
Edge 15: 490 points
Firefox: 484 points
Chrome 57: 519 points

Not much in it actually.

Based on this it seems that FF is the worst of those listed so developing something in FF virtually ensures it will work in the others', because it is the least compliant at the moment. Conversely developing in Chrome may result in the use of elements and functionality that the others do not support, hence why there will be problems when a website is opened with the others.

I'm sorry, maybe I'm just not getting it. My PC / Browser has crashed a multitude of times. When it loads up it asks me if I would like to restore my previous tabs etc.? Does yours not do that? (chrome btw).
Have tried multiple Chrome engines and if it crashes while using the browser the tab data is gone. Same with FF.

Works on all browsers using the Chrome engine I presume?

Agreed. FF and the rest of the browsers are piles of turd, and FF's versioning system just really really annoys me. FIRE FOX 10000!@#!#!eleven111!!

Erm, version 52.0.2 is the current one, with the rapid release they're aiming at a new "major" version every 6 weeks.
Chrome is on 57.0.2987.133, how is that for a versioning. :p

The versioning really doesn't matter.

Am on the new creators Edge now, the tab set aside seems useless to me, I'd split it into a new window anyways.
Oh and Edge versioning, I am now on:

Microsoft Edge 40.15063.0.0
But I am also on Microsoft EdgeHTML 15.15063

everything seems to take up so much space on Edge without really doing anything. I still don't really get the tab previews, prefer the FF implementation (think I enabled a setting for it though, it's part of FF). Also the fact that Edge doesn't let the previews keep going to the edge of the screen is annoying. I have screen real-estate, use it.

Edge just crashed on me, lol. Trying to figure out what I did that caused it.
The H.265 support was never implemented, Edge just used the OS to play it. One of the advantages of browser integration.

Firefox/Chrome/Opera also work, no hassles. I/We just like some extra functionality/customization that Edge doesn't have which is a quick set-up and we're good to go. Browsers are your choice, you can't really say there is a "best", though you can try. I swap between FF and Chrome because I like them, they are both fast, they both fulfill their purpose well. I spent most of last year exclusively using Chrome, I swapped back due to interface change, it's really personal preference.

Oh, creator's update, second screen finally has a clock, amazing. Now if I can just have the display tray duplicated, thinking of buying display fusion, used it on a friends W7 machine for a while and it works really well. The joy of Windows vs Mac.

I wish Chrome would allow tabs to be dragged to create a bookmark. Have to click things to create a bookmark.
Even though Chrome is faster, after a few weeks of use I think I still prefer Firefox.

Doesn't do anything on Windows. But that's just the same as clicking the bookmark star? Still easier to just drag it where I want it.
Just select and drag the url to the bookmark bar...

Tried Firefox for about a 2 months. Just went back to Chrome this week.

It is just hard to beat Chrome.

I would try Edge if they allowed plugins like lastpass. Until the, no!

Firefox was my favourite for a long time, but lately I experience slow startup times, slow loading times and poor GUI response. May be my setup but I'm switching to Chrome for now.
