firefox won't access local server. chrome does

i have a local server running on http://localhost:xxxx/

when I try to acces via firefox, i get an unable to connect error. when i try access via chrome it goes through.

what could be causing the problem in firefox? what is the ting to run to show what add-ons are running on ff?

No proxy is selected

same problem. even when i use the ip the router has allocated to this computer.

One of the Firefox plug in is running on the same port? Disable them all and try again...

Firewall not opening up ports for Firefox? Can you hit WAN endpoints on the same port if you force transit over it?

i ran the relevant app and pointed it to the internal ip address of this computer. it is now working.

edit - it is strange though that firefox seemed to have an aversion to localhost and 127.0.0.1
