Firefox's future

I use both (Chrome and FF).

Just one question relating to the article.

Then there are all those toolbars. I know that Mozilla is gradually reducing the number of toolbars and cutting back on excess buttons, but when you’ve experienced Chrome, even Firefox’s best attempts at being streamlined feel clunky and crowded.

What excess buttons?

Yep. Here is my work FF setup: http://i.imgur.com/icM6K.png The toolbars at top are the only bars I have on the entire screen.

Since FF 3.5 it has not crashed at all for me. It does take a while to start up (maybe 5-10s longer than Chrome) but when it does, it just works. Memory usage is still high although it has had no negative impact on my systems that I've felt.

Why is Chrome a 22MB download and Firefox only 13MB? Why does Chrome from Google not give me the option to download without installing? Will I have to investigate my system afterwards to remove extra stuff I didn't want installed, like Google Updates, Google Update Helper, etc, etc? Actually, IE9 works fine for me and I see no reason to change.

Opera is 9.83MB and comes with more standard feature built in than any other browser. It even has a mail client fully integrated.

I took my bookmarks tab off ages ago as I just save open tabs when I close (by doing the about:conf firefox troll thing).

Used to love Opera but prefer the mobile version to the desktop version.

You know what I would like to see? A truly unbiased article (Like that is possible), showing the pro’s and con’s of each browser AND how they work on different os’s.

The reason I say this, is that I have a machine running Windows 7, and a Mac running Snow Leopard. On my Mac, I use Safari. It is faster than Chrome, Looks smart (yeah, it is sort of important to many people) and is extremely stable (never had it crash actually).

The same can’t be said for Safari on Windows. Crashes all the time, and in my experience, chrome outperforms it on any given day.

Not suggesting I know much about anything, but an article or table illustrating the performance, look, ease of use for your average user, stability and add ons or scriptability (is that a word) for power users would be great. Then have that same table for each major operating system.

Awesome idea!
Methinks mybb should do a survey of it's users asking exactly the same questions as above :)

I use both--in Linux-based OS, Google Chrome outperforms FF; also FF UI looks really awful compared to Chrome in Linux OSs--look at the that hideous looking menu and tab bar? What happened to the minimalist UI; Chrome does it so well. and Oh, Shuttleworth, in Ubuntu, will be replacing FF for Chrome in next release (I think 12.04 or so)

Do yourself a favour and try Firefox with the Adblock Plus add-on. Marvel at how beautiful the web is without ads.

I use Firefox with Adblock Plus on my XP system and IE9 with EasyList Adblock Plus Tracking Protection on Win7.

I wish Chrome would hurry up and support FF style live bookmarks (Updated from the RSS feed.) and I really like my add ons. What really REALLY irritates me is the new attitude of the Devs. Its like they poached Steve Jobs to manage the department. Any requests from users or businesses are just ignored or are told they are "doing it wrong".

My pet hate is this bug http://tinyurl.com/5v225vl WTF were they thinking?

alt-backarrow - you would think that that simple combination would do in Chrome what it has always done in Firefox (regardless of platform) or even IE ..for about as far back as I can remember. But no, to THAT bloody thing alt-backarrow cycles you backwards through tabs instead of back to the page you were previously on, on the same sodding tab!

*ahem* ..if a shiny-arsed fanboi :erm: could enlighten me how to get Chrome to get this one thing right, I'd be ever so grateful (and maybe even a bit more inclined to use it more often). But for now, and all of its other goodness notwithstanding, I'm simply not leaving Firefox.

working fine on chrome 12.

I only use Chrome on slow machines, like my OLD laptop :P. I really enjoy my FireFox and I would be sad to be forced to make a change. It's not just about speed for me, it's about the personalization that comes with it

I have always liked FF because of the extensions, if Chrome can give me the same I will use that as well.
But I always have Chrome,Opera,Safari, and Firefox installed anyway.

i have to say i switch between ff and chrome and can't really say that the speed difference between the two is something i notice.

i also love the tab candy on ff which sees me constantly going back to it.
