Fireplace advice

Has anyone had to replace the glass from their fireplace..? I know there was a thread way back when but couldn't find it. One side of ours broke and having one custom made costs a pretty penny!

Yes, cracked mine. Bought a OE replacement and fitted myself. Not very difficult with the design of my setup.

So quick question

My fireplace is a multifuel one I have been using wood for the last year but I can use anthracite too.

To those that use anthracite would you recommend it over wood? How much less do you use. Cause I'm assume 1kg of anthracite goes much further than 1kg wood.

Also is 70 rand for 10kg good?

Anthracite burns hotter and longer than wood. Also works out a lot cheaper if you buy bulk.

thanks will buy a bag and try it out. Where exactly can you buy bulk in Gauteng closes to "bulk" is 40kg bags that I can find.

Bobcat scoop is 560kg, you supply the bags, they fill them up.
Phone them for bobcat scoop and 70kg bag prices.

Thanks much appreciated!

Bag prices are as follows:
65kg 335
40kg 210
20kg 120

Isn't this stuff really difficult to get going? I seem to remember that people leave it burning 24/7 because of this so it may not be cheaper in the long run.

You make the wood starter fire then add some. I just start a fire in the afternoon round 4:30 then add wood as needed till 9pm. Im def not doing 247 Ill buy one bag to try

BUT not all fireplaces can do anthracite so make sure yours can

Very happy with it think I might stock up on bulk - pretty much get the fire going toss in some anthracite takes a little while to get going add a few more turn down fire let it go.

I recommend buy a small bag before getting loads more also make sure your fireplace is suitable for it

Anthracite will eventually burn through a steel grate. You need cast iron.
It gets much hotter than wood.

For what it's worth, bought from Stompies as they delivered in bags as I can manage them better. Unsure if the wood is good quality as the bark seems to be loose and falls off on the blue gum wood. (Pink and white blue gum according to delivery guy). I have no reference myself having used to buy eco logs and had loads of red blue gum (the driver told me what wood I had - he said that's the best kind cos it's super hard)

I had bought bluegum and black wattle. The wood is nice and dry and burns nicely. Bought 20 cm pieces and they fit perfectly in the fireplace.

I would suggest a mix of the two woods. Use the blue gum as your starter then add the wattle. Should make for a nice combo
