Okay!

VWS members (2nd group of us) have been sent on a First Aid Level 3 course which is being done by EMT.co.za

Luke our instructor is very fun, with that, we're learning our first aid but every now and again he shows us something FUN.

Here are 2 movies of "Vehicle Extracations" (if you have to get someone out of a vehicle)

Of cause, prior to showing us, he gave us the speech of it being out of our scope of practise (we as first aiders shouldnt' do it unless in DIRE emergencies, like, car is going to explode or something)

I thought I'd share the movies with you for a bit of humor.

It's on Flickr and my camera records in HD - I think Flickr resamples it.

In the 2nd video clip, we as VWS members get to try doing it...

I'm going to enquire Metro Ambulances about being an observer on the ambulances - learn things.

If anyone here knows anyone, has any contracts regarding this "being a observer" (which I can only basically do) then please contact me.

I've received a few PM's asking me where I did my course;

Well, the course was done via EMT (Emergency Medical Training) (www.emt.co.za) and I'm not entirely sure of the cost as VWS paid for it (YAY!) but having said that, our instructor Luke Summers was awesome as a instructor and I would def recommend him to anyone.

All EMT's contact details are on the web site.

Do you know which courses you need to take to become an EMT?

I'd like to do a course and not have to pay for it.

Perk of being a "Volunteer" fire fighter boet ;)

Acid, I know that Luke was telling us about it, there is a course you can do that costs R6000 but I can't remember the information on it.

Maybe contact EMT directly and ask them, I'm sure they would be willing to tell you.

I know a guy named Sipho who is very good at "vehicle Extractions"!!! :p

In fact when he is finished there is no sign of the vehicle! ;)

I am sure Luke would have told you where you can go as an "observer"

He did give us some 'basic' information like chatting to "Metro" which I've done.

But you see, he is just 1 person, this place is full of people who know people ;) so that's why I asked.

WHAT KINDA OF A FA COURSE IS THIS?

WTF? You never remove a helmet from a person that had an accident

Seriously, WTF?

Time you went and did a proper first aid course boet. ;)

Basically, it all depends on the situation, the idea here is to remove the helmet (if you have more than 1 person) so that the guy doesn't puke (which happens most times) so you can clear his airways (putting him in the recovery position) or if you would need to do CPR on the victim.
If you're 1 person, taking the helmet off is not advised, you need 2 people and it's slow, but it all depends on the situation.

You can't do CPR on someone who has the helmet on and you can't keep his airways clear with a freaking helmet on...

I'll be the first one at the Court when you are charged with murder for removing a helmet from a biker who fell. I'm shocked, honestly shocked. I suggest you read up on helmets and accidents, also advise your trainer about the dangers in removing helmets from victims of accidents. Seriously, this is not a joke....

I won't be charged with murder if I can prove that what I did was in the best interest of the patient.

If the 'patient' isn't breathing and / or choking on his vomit, then what?

Need to keep his airways clear! Basics of first aid boet.

Like I said, time you redid your first aid course Pitbull.

His airways might be clear but his brains would be all over the floor?

:(

Like I said, depending on the situation hey, if there was blood pissing from his helmet, I personally wouldn't want to take the helmet off.

Cause, I'd love to post more details on why we were taught what we were taught, in more detail, but I can't do that right now.

Chocking on his vomit = Turn him on his side

I thought you did this course already :o

You only remove the helmet if you need to give CPR, there is no exclusions to this rule ever.
