Can't remeber the mofo's name but it was really hard to understand what he was saying. I puzzled together from a few words here and there. The strange thing is, now our signal is better than ever...

Surely the support center cannot be condoning the practice of outright lying to customers? The management of the support center really should be notified (and CC'd to Sentech), and ideally with the names of those who lied to you, they should be fired. And if the support center management doesn't care (or worse, supports the practice), then Sentech should be informed. If I were Sentech management I'd be pissed. They need to know it's happening.
 
Hear hear... but my main topic of b!tching is that we were not notified of any downtown. That part licks b@!!5 ! That is what makes my mad...

But yet again.. as long as we have broadband we will be the slaves of sentech ($$$$!)

Agreed Ditch.

but knowing most support people - Sentech probably didn't give them a direct answer initially and the support center had to say "something" to calm the clients down... I don't condone it but I've seen it too often to be that suprised ;-)

Hehe, yeah were their slaves. It's like drug.

We get hooked up. And keep going nuts, and evetually, we dont stop.
And then one day, we dont have any, and we go on like raving lunatics cause we got cravings. But the moment they give us some more we go silent.

Anyways, About the planes thing ... if that was the case, I doubt it's up to them to tell us. And well, the lovely contract that we read, agreed, and confirmed that we agreed by signing them , says they dont really have to do anything to make us happy. Including not having to deliver service to us at all.

It's interisting though :) I just see my connection once a week, trying out something new that hapened to pop into my download folder [:p]

I didnt really notice the down time in pretoria :) hehe, but I'm sure it sucked.
 
Apparently they had a blocking device of sorts around the union buildings area on 27 April such as to prevent any cell phone traffic for security reasons or something.

Still not a valid excuse unless you were in the actual range of the blackout area and had no way out. The signal will find a way to you if blocked from one particular direction. So maybe this is what they were talking about rather than it was just the planes. This is assuming these "blockers" block all frequencies.. but I wouldnt really know.
 
Photons (you know, the particles also known as light waves or radio waves) travel in straight lines, not circles or rectangles... If there's something in between you and the tower that's blocking the signal, and it's large enough to occlude most or all of your "view" of the tower, then you won't be able to exchange signals with the tower, simple as that.

Now get a good physics book and go to Young's single and double split experiments. Or look at Poisson's paradox regarding a monochromatic light falling on a sphere. You will see that light does not always travel in straight lines.

Uh, yeah, the wave has "spread out"... thus magically allowing light to circle around obstacles, and also proving your earlier point that quantum physics doesn't actually apply to anything.

I didn't really prove anything I must admit. To really prove something like this you have to go out and do some experiments. Can't say I know much about quantum physics, but I know that for quantum physics to apply you have to make some kind of boolean type measurement half way through your experiment.

Don't really worry if you think light is particles - Newton thought that when he died, and he was THE expert on light.

K - Wrong (I think). They may form nice concentric half circles at very large distances, but it is really difficult to prove because the energy density is so low.

Who said we thought that? Photons can act as particles in certain conditions.

If we didnt use some kind of linear idea of how a photon operates, your game of Q3 wouldnt look to hot.

but I bet you cant prove that, since you'd need to fire it accross the universe and eventualy it would hit you in the ass. That however is time-space curvature, the photon would still have to travel in a straight line for that to happen.

Particles just as good a model as anything else. Saying that light "is" a particle, however, is just as meaningless as saying that light "is" a wave; this is where E-Prime comes in handy...

Or you can adopt the model I'm using : There is reception if and only if the modem tell me there is reception. Much easier.
 
So if the tower isn't occluded by the obstacle, you'll still have signal. Great. And if it <b>is</b> occluded, then you won't have signal. I'm starting to hear an echo in here...
