correct, but you must make sure you get the 5hp one with the metal sleeve at the piston.

This, never buy the cheapest model of whatever brand you get.

the southern cross made in germany somewhere I think is the best. a thrimmer with the motor on top will last long.

I had a stihl petrol trimmer one, they told me to put it in my will, but my engineer cannot start the motor, so got a electric one with the motor on top. I sold the stihl, still running strong with the new owner.

These Tandem ratels are the ak47 of lawnmovers. You have different options from electric to petrol
You can depending on budget get them with from a honda engine to a Briggs motor.

They come in steel and aluminum frames. proper wheel bearing wheels.

I suggested aluminum frame. They light and strong. I would look for a 4 stroke 190 cc briggs and straton.
weet eater any 2 stroke is fine for home use.

So I need to buy our first lawnmower and hedge trimmer (always lived in complexes before).
Garden size is approximately 800sqm2 of varying grass and shrubs etc.

Gardener will be using them.

Which would you buy, or what tips do you have? Thanks.
I did the same when I bought my first house. Months of research and bought a lawnmower and weed eater...I was SO excited about my new huge garden.

After a year of spending my whole weekend ...every weekend in summer, doing this kak...I sold all the schit on Gumtree and got garden services.

Never looked back...

Stick to the old school brands like Flymo, Southern Cross etc.

Flymo hedge trimmer will outlast a gardener that pulses the poor motor like he is flicking a bean.
Does that also get to you? I thought that it was only me that gets irritated by a trigger-happy doofus.

My Magnum electric lawnmower with its locally produced motor has been going now since 1976. Had few dings, an Alumiminum weld repair and plenty of blades but that is all.

Outlasted all the gardeners I had over the years. I abuse the hell out of it. I use it with a special blade I made as a "lawn leveller". It will cut through the toughest weeds and ground even.
My most favourite ad at the time

Why do they do it!!!!
I suspect that they think that they are being economical, using it like an aerosol can of Doom, or even deodorant.

Meanwhile, they are just shortening the life of the switch, motor and bearings. They don't seem to realise that the electrical motor (and its application) achieves peak efficiency when driven continuously.

Weet eater, try to get one with a bearing at the cutter. How do you know it got what, ask any game salesmen.

Where did you get a replacement? I suspect that is what is busy giving notice ---- it tends to trip a little more often these days.
Lawnmower place here in Rtb.
What happened was: It would cut grass, then not. Discovered the motor changes direction on every start up.

Get a garden service rather..
We had one for 3 weeks. R2000 a month for 1 day a week and I kept seeing the guys on the CCTV browsing their phones hiding behind bushes. I told the lady who owns it and she was all gushing and loud and laughed and said hahaha no my guys work very hard...
I don't have them any more :)

If your garden engineer is going to use it never buy a petrol lawnmower
or the wife, ex friend of mine, remove the oil for the service, decide to refill it the next day. Wife decided to mow the lawn, mover without oil make puff puff, puff.
