First SAAF Black Female Chopper Pilot

Ok, so now i have to educate a bunch of apartheid educated grown men. Here it goes. You do understand what is meant by a pass rate don't you?

If "They" dropped the pass rate, then that would imply that a fraudulent act was being commited by whomever is marking the exam scripts in order to reflect "worse". results than what the candidates were ACTUALLY attaining. If "they" did this, wouldn't they be shooting themselves in the foot? I hope you understand now because i think this is a simple enough concept. Hell, my 14 yr old sister understands it.

No need to play the race card with me to get my attention. You're arguing about semantics; so let me explain it so your 14 year sister might understand. Lets say the pass rate (the r e q u i r e d percentage) to pass a sat exam was 50% it was l o w e r e d to 30%.

Wasn't what you wanted to read? The pass rate when I was at school was 40% from all subjects with the exception of your second language which was 33%. The pass rate is now 33% across the board. The article goes into great lengths about the drop in the standard of education.

He does not want to face the fact that education in this country has taken a beating. It has become a joke. Paper qualifications mean nothing. The level of education is terrible. Maybe his 14yr old sister is one of those newly educated people who think they have such an amazing education. The real world does not work like that.

Your comment about having to be suitably qualified and experienced to get a guv job is not entirely true. Total chaos at Home Affairs is a mere example of a department that is not 'blessed' with many of those people.
 
I can't find the link right now but the SA Air Force Academy basic pilot's course class of 2006 consisted of roughly 70% black pupils with the rest being white. It is tradition in the SAAF that the top candidates get preference when choosing their speciality like fixed wing, choppers etc. Naturally the most popular choice is jets which gives you a good chance of getting to fly a brand new Gripen.

Anyways, the selectors were told that they only had space for 3 pilots on the jets course (BAe Hawks). Come graduation day it turns out that the white candidates dominated the top of the class. The top 3 pilots (all white) naturally all chose to go on the advanced jet training course. Lo and behold, they were all told that they were assigned to transports (Flossies, Dacs etc.) which is the aviation equivalent of bus drivers while the lucky three aviators assigned to jets were black guys that placed far down the field in the basic course.

As a result, the fighter jocks are definitely not close to being the best pilots the airforce has to offer. Instead, they were chosen due to the colour of their skin.

Now, if the above scenario is the norm for pilot selection in the SAAF then you have to ask yourself what the chances are that this particular chopper pilot is the best skilled person for the job. Of course, if she is then I say well done and good luck. Chances of that being the case, however, are slim.
 
it always amazes me how people, who have absolutely no first hand knowledge or facts about certain issues jump to conclusions..

It is true that some people do not get to go where they want to go when they finish their course in the SAAF, but they were made aware of this when they joined the air force and started their careers (they are actually told normally about 1 or 2 months before they finish their course where they are going to fly).. This trend will last as long as the countries AA policy either changes or gets done away with.. There are a fair number black pilots in the saaf at the moment, some very good, some average and some not so good..

HOWEVER, exactly the same can be said for the white, indian and cloured pilots in the SAAF as well.. i am not gonna mention anything else on that topic...

and for strongturd, i am afraid u have the wrong idea about military transport aircraft.. they are far from buses being flown across the sky.. they carry out more varied missions than fighters do...

thats all i am gonna say about this now... its too late to type a 1000 word post on this issue, i would just like all of you jumping up and down screaming and shouting to first get appropriate FACTS, and then you may feel free to make wild statements like some of you have...

I remember the story very clearly. The 3 top trainees were told they could not become fighter pilots because they were not black.

This echos a similar story in the navy when some students on an officers programme were asked why they were there because they stood little chance of promotion because of their colour.
