Good day

I have been reading these forums a while but this is the first time posting.

Please I need advice from someone "in the know"

I have a 384kbps line from telkom and for some reason my ping is over 100. Download speed 0.26 and upload 0.1 or something like that. heres the link http://www.speedtest.net/result/1997829872.png.

Please could anybody tell me if this is normal and if not how do I improve it. Please explain step by step as I only have the adsl line one month, so I'm not a proffessional by any means.

Thank you so much for your assistance.

Your speed is fine. Max for a 384K line is about 0.33Mbps down and 0.1 up. Local gaming you'll have about a ping of 100, you can get lower by being closer to server and / or being on the right ISP. I play on an English server and I have a ping of 200.

Please post your snr stats and ratios it should be by your routers control panel. It sounds like you are far from the exchange.

stats from my router

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 384 kbps 128 kbps
Line Attenuation 38.5 db 22.5 db
Noise Margin 45.0 db 19.0 db

apologies for posting more than once. as i mentioned, Im knew to all of this. How do I know how far I am from the exchange? here is my stats? Is this what you were looking for? http://www.speedtest.net/result/1998007627.png
You can't know how far you are. Only guess. Even if you had accurate numbers, it wouldn't help you. Nor do you need SNR numbers.

The limiting factor here is the 384kbps line speed at which Telkom caps you (and possibly ISP too, depending on package). Not line quality issues.

The analysis provided by Lycan here is largely correct:

Except the ping part....the speedtest ping measurement is inaccurate. i.e. The value shown is high, but its also wrong.

In summary...you're line is fine and there is nothing you can do to improve it further short of upgrading. Since your on FNB data, chances are that is not speed limited so you'd have to pay Telkom for a 1024kbps line (extra ~R100 per month) or wait for the upgrades in August.
