Fitness Tracker

Do these fitness trackers actually monitor and then download to the app later?

I never train or run with my phone near me, so would I be able to use these and let it download the data later or does it have to be in constant connection with the phone app to work?

It downloads whenever you sync it to your device but your device stores it until that time.

I got the jawbone up2 from Dischem. Took it to the prescription desk and the full 1599 came off my medical savings.

My better half bought the fitbit charge HR cash for 2499.

If I could do it again, I'd spend the extra and get the Fitbit.

The app which goes along with the Jawbone is awful. It's had so many updates over the past months, and still it doesn't work. The Up refuses to sync, or takes forever to sync, or syncs with inaccurate data.

The first few weeks it worked perfectly (although it doesn't have a heart rate monitor of any kind) but the subsequent updates to the app have made it unusable.

I still wear it in the hope that the app will start working again.

Tl;dr get the Fitbit.

the jawbones battery is like 7-9 days and can hold more than that in data before needing to sync

They(dischem) didn't ask you to pay in the deference?

This is not my experience at all.
The app works perfectly for me, always syncs and updates accordingly.

Hi Guys, I am looking at getting a fitness tracker since I have recently found out that discovery gives R750 towards a fitness device.

First Q
How do I use the R750 from Discovery? Show dischem/clicks my discovery health card when purchasing?
s

Have considered rather going the 25% money back route at either a Sportsman`s Warehouse or Total Sports using the Healthy Gear benefit. That R750 you get back is subtracted from your medical savings and can therefor be better used for an medical emergency.

I am partial to the Garmin devices due to having already significantly infested in their eco system. Their vivofit range boasts a two year battery time which is worth a mention.

I know two people that clock a lot of steps while commuting by bike using the Fitbit Charge devices so I doubt it is a device issue and more an algorithm issue but then if you want accurate data activity trackers are not the solution you should be looking at.

Thanks Blu

I have R5500 in my medical savings account which has been accumulated since Jan last year. I have only started really using the medical Aid since this year for two chrio visits. I only get the flu once in winter and thats it, no doctors visits, no sick notes, do the whole alternative healing approach. I plan on leaving my current job and then the country, so want to use as much as I can before I leave.

Also want to get a new pair of spectacles, Any idea on how much you can use from your medical savings account?
