Five reasons to try IE8

I am very much a Firefox user as it feels right.

I am running Internet Explorer 8 RC1 and I am trying it.. but FireFox still makes me feel more at home.
 
I've just uninstalled 8 as I encountered various rendering problems that were not fixed by compatibility mode. Now happily running ie7 and ff, as the mood takes me.

The anti-hijack method used by M$ won't work or pick up - as this requires webmasters to insert special tags into their HTML code.

I was wondering about this, as they seemed to be punting this feature quite heavily, imho.

Haven't tried IE8 yet, but I will probably get the same impression as I got when I used IE7, is that it seems to be trailing behind FF.

Also, as Globetrotter said, the addons are FTW. I have quite a few that are brilliant.

well, I will charge extra to make sites compatible with IE6, IE7 and IE8, as all of them support standards in a different manner... which means that I have to develop 4 versions of each site I make...one standards compliant one, and the 3 for the various IE crapware ones...

More than one standard = confusion.
 
Here's one: it will mean that there is one less person using IE6.
 
I uninstalled the beta when it buggered up dvdshrink. Some dll incompatibility. Anyone know if it's fixed?

I guess I'll try it again.
 
Chrome!

Me - tried IE (not 8 yet, though), FF2+3, Safari and Opera 9.0. Chrome just does is for me - fast and almost lightweight. Love the idea that if one tab crashes the rest lives. Furthermore, the integration with Google's services are awesome (yes, you can do it with FF plugins, but these just takes longer to load).

Only reason why I keep FF is because banking websites and Chrome doesn't seem to like each other (Standardbank Online share trading throws error, Investec's keypad doesn't appear and FNB doesn't want to go past login screen).

True, but big corporates will stick with MS and IE - and the average guy in the street uses the browser he is presented with.

IE may not be the greatest, but sometimes people just hate it for the sole reason that it is a MS product. When someone claims they haven't looked at IE in "years" and still knocks it - one can't take them serious. Try it, find the faults and then diss it.

I used IE7 the other day... Still annoyed the heck out of me, I was trying to take a screenshot and every time I clicked the mouse out of IE it would go to the end of the link instead of staying where I left it..
 
ie8 might be ok with all the new features, but hell that doesn't mean you have to use it!
 
after reading this article decided to try out. The accelarators are quite cool. the webslices dont seem to work quite as well as i expected.

One problem though its still IE :p
 
I regularly try out different browsers and every one of them has its own problems, idiosyncracies, irritations, and incompatibilities. On the whole I've never found a FF user who can actually articulate what they dislike about IE other than a visceral prejudice against MS - the routine comments above bear this out. (Note to FF-fans: puhlease don't post links to other people's comments. I've truly really read dozens of articles & reviews on this topic.)

Microsoft Internet Explorer works fine for me, and IE8 on Win7b is an incremental improvement over IE7, with some nifty enhancements. For my part I have no reason to change because nothing else offers any compelling reason, feature, function or advantage that makes the effort worthwhile. And because MS is so under the microscope and hyperscrutinised compared to everyone else, they can't get it seriously wrong without causing major uproar, and immediately issuing a fix. It's no less secure than anyone else's browser, is regularly patched, and gets better and better with every release. This is a Chev vs Ford non-debate, with plenty of heat from the anti-MS brigade.
