I really have to wonder why so many people refer to the BB's email as "unrivaled"... Really?! That might have been true 5 years ago, but not anymore... not by a loooong stretch!

Even 8 years ago (so looking back to around mid 2003), exchange activesync was in full swing, and all WinMo 5 phones had access to push email as long as you were running Exchange 2003... nothing new here, pass right on by.

Operators are practically giving this phone away. It’s available on contract at R249 per month, which is very low for this type of device.

Can someone please point me to these deals?

The only thing 'unrivaled' about the BB email solution compared to my Android+Gmail is the frequency of downtime (and not in a good way for the BB).

Exactly my point... and when you point that out, they'll come back with the "secure" argument... which is negated by SSL connection to your mail server. I'm not anti-BB here, but I'm amazed by how many people still a) believe that you can only access email on a BB, and b) that the email functionality on a BB is somehow superior to anything else.

Well.. you are going to derail the thread with that comment... so rather don't don't go down that path.

All I can say is that no one else offers a service with the same mechanism as BB so in that sense it is unrivaled.

Cell C has a great deal. The s2 for R280 a month,includes 100 anytime minutes. The s2 is an amazing phone, and kills the rest. Thats when it comes down to taste and the reason for the phone. Some people love BB, I personally hated mine. I love the iphone, but after seeing the s2 I had to have it.

I have a Nokia N9, and it is beautiful to look at. So I think the Lumia 800 will be too. But functionally, it can't compare to my HTC Desire. I would go so far as to say it isn't a true smart phone. The android device can truly do anything.
