Flatscreen : white levels

So what is best for sport and SD DSTV?

PmP has a point though...LCDs (non high-end at least) tend to look terrible on SD DSTV.

The time has come for you to put the buyer's remorse behind you...and get a plasma

I had a plasma first ;)

Wasn't too bad - but there were some annoying traits I couldn't live with. Sold it and bought the LCD.

At one stage I too was a pro-plasma fan and when people around me were buying LCD, I selected the plasma and was fairly happy. Time came to move on because of the disadvantages, walked into a shop and viewed the LCD ... and pretty different to a few years ago ;)

I think - just my opinion - that Postman is still stuck in 2007 ... and I suppose I shouldn't be too hard on him

Apologies PP.

Now that I look at your posts closer, you're quite neutral and not nearly pro plasma as I thought

Except, in each case (or perhaps 99% of them barring the few with the winks denoting cheekiness) you quoted, plasma suited the OP?

I'm pretty sure, too, that at least 75% of those quotes are in response to OPs needing SD TV/sport?

Thanks for the LOL though. :D

There are some of my favourite ;)

I actually am not quite sure what is actually being said ...

... plasma is superior than high end LCD?
... plasma at the half the price is superior?
... high end LCD is equal and sometime better than mid range plasma?
... then some plasma may compare to some high end?
... WHAT?!

So what is best for sport and SD DSTV?

I'm not surprised you're not quite sure what is being said.

See, even SiriS knows. ;)

Why would you think this when I have said on numerous occasions now that mid-range (and even high-end) LCDs and plasmas are very much equal?

... you never said that in the beginning ;)

The funny part is watching you change!

Very few people start their posts with ...

'hi, I'd like to watch SD DTSV and sport continually. I love motion and my TV sitting on tennis and golf most the time.'

In fact, many came on initially asked about x LCD vs y LCD only!

I can understand why you would have thought that, and so have no problem admitting that.

The honest truth is that I was comparing entry to mid range LCDs and plasmas in the beginning, which is why I believed what I did, and still do, except only to the extent of comparing both at the entry level, thanks to some excellent debates between us all that have proven to me how similar the technologies are at the mid and high end.

Perhaps they didn't say that in the OP, but once asked what their purposes were, they did often say TV/sport, and in the case of your quotes above where my response was pro-plasma, it was at least 75% of the time. And, sport implies motion. ;)

And you'd be surprised at how many people, initially only after LCD, actually ended up going for plasma. I even have a multitude of PMs thanking me. :D

uh huh ... ;)

Should we start with recommending the Sony?

Should we start with recommending the Sony?

I know you'd love to see the PMs - but I can't post them - forum policy. ;)

Sorry, I'm not sure I understand your Sony comment?

I've received PMs about the STR-500 too, btw. :p

Remember I said your answer to all questions is either plasma or Sony .... ?
You said it wasn't ... ?

I was thinking we could back and pull up all the :

get the STR500!
system pumps!
best thing ever!
awesome - get it now!

Go read the Surround sound thread now ;-).

That's correct. It isn't. I've already asked how you make the connection, but you haven't commented?

How do you deduce:

"Plasma/Sony is the answer to everything" (your words, not mine)

From saying:

"PS42C430/C450 and STR-500 is the best value for anyone with a budget of the amount those two products add up to; and if they need t for TV/sport, there is nothing that offers better value" (my words)

?

I was thinking we could back and pull up all the :

get the STR500!
system pumps!
best thing ever!
awesome - get it now!

But it does pump, and does offer the best value for a budget of R4,000?

You asked me to make the connection with plasma being the answer ... took me 20 minutes and all I saw was plasma plasma plasma

I've seen you mention the Sony when it comes to sound as well - but I don't have another 20 minutes to waste on Sony Sony Sony :/

You failed to see the TV, sport, TV, sport, TV, sport; and perhaps budget, budget, budget; to which I was replying and recommending plasma.

You definitely failed to see budget, budget, budget; and best bang for buck, best bang for buck, best bang for buck.

Toodaloo!
