I recently moved into a new house - a friends' house - with my 1and a half year old and 6 year old....was soooo excited and while we offloaded the first boxes my baby was walking in the yard. Within 5 min he was COVERED witg fleas! I have had an exterminator out, they've sprayed inside and out twice but they just don't die. Within 3 days they're back. I have a thatch lapa as well. I can't go outside and literally run from the car to the front door.. I've heard of diatomaceous earth.. ANY ADVISE???

Fleas have a 6 week cycle so for 6 weeks the eggs will be hatching and you need to spray for 6 weeks .
In the house dyflea works, out side use Karbacure with a hose pipe syphone .
You need to spray every couple of days in side the house with dyflea.
Outside the Karbocure seems to work with one application.

In Natal we had problems with fleas, and tried everything - even hardcore industrial products. Nothing worked.

Then I found Dyflea - problem solved. Dyflea was the only product which worked - never had problems again.

As FNfal suggested, do what they tell you on the bottle - spray in those dark places where the eggs are etc.

Yeah...

I've found that there are tons of products out there.. and DyFlea worked the best for controlling the fleas, and flea powder was the only thing that worked on pets to keep the fleas off.

This is very useful info.

Have a similar problem, but not nearly as bad.
Our dog sleeps outside in a kennel is nearly always scratching.

Been using the powder in his house and on him.
But will get some Dyflea today and cover the kennel in it.
The only question I have is, will it harm the dog if I spray in and around his kennel?

Is dyflea freely available at chain stores or is it specific to pet stores?

Dyflea works.
You can also throw fine salt on the carpets, dogs beds. Dries out the flea eggs.

Also fleas dont tend to be in sunny and dry areas in the garden. Normally under bushes where dogs sleep etc. Thats where you need to get them.

Good advice!

What to do with ticks? How to get rid of them, any ideas!

We have been spraying Dyflea in the house but they still come back, my husband sprayed today and he could actually walk around in the yard..so I chanced it and within 2 min there were 4 small ones on me.....I swear we counted the bites on my body 4 days ago..we stopped @ 300. I had to go to the doctor because my body started reacting to the bites bcause they were too many and I was allergic to the first poison the pest control used! I am on antibiotics and cortisone but at least I can sleep without itching. I have so many bites on my legs and scratched so bad that I will never be able to wear shorts again. I really am desperate!

Since you have young kids as a long term solution plant fennel around the house. Pack of seed will set you back less than R20. Takes a month to two to grow from seed.

karba dust - sprinkle it around your yard. i moved to the new house and suddenly i have a flea infestation at the new house. the woman who i take my little dog to get bathed told me about it. i bought some and you can also sprinkle some on the dogs and cats as well.

Where does one get this?

You must also vacuum at the edges of carpets. Take your time since the eggs can adhere to the carpet fibres. I once went with an estate agent to view an empty house. As she opened the front door, we could see this wave of fleas advancing towards us. I suppose the poor buggers were hungry, not having had any food for a few weeks
