Hi All,

Strangest thing is happening, my Telefunken 32" LCD TV has started flickering, it happened the other day but came right after leaving it off for a little while and then has worked fine all week, well now it has started again and even after leaving off for a while seems to be continuing.

I purchased it from HiFi Corp about 1.5 years ago but can't find the slip so having it checked under warranty isn't an option as far as I know, unless they have a way of checking the serial number?

Any advice or would repairing it cost say more than 25% of purchasing a new one?

Thanks :)

it should be repairable at not to bad a price.

Can't give you an accurate price but a 19'' lcd will cost approx R500-R600 if it's only board work(no major parts). Can't see it should cost much more.

*cough* grey products *cough*

Not true any more, at least for most of their stuff or the big brands.

@ OP:

Warranty should be able to be claimed for without a slip and with just a serial number. Serial number is proof of purchase as far as I'm concerned.

thanks PostmanPot, will try them on it.

So went to HiFi corp, no slip no warranty  but well what can you do, so they start to book the item in so I can get a quote on repair, I get frustrated as it seems the guy can't work the system and he spends the next 20 minutes to search for the product code as he is either clicking the wrong button after putting in the query or spelling it wrong, he did both a number of times, eventually i grabbed the tv and left before I lost it.

Well when the lcd was in my boot the one corner I went round I heard it sliding and bumping the side of the boot, when I get home I plug it in and it is working as per normal  :wtf: so will check it out again over the next few days but failing that I will need to take it somewhere else to be looked at.

so last night switched it on and flickering again. left it a while and came right :wtf:

from what I've seen with LCDmonitors that's probably dry joint(s).

It will probably be less frustrating & not tooooo expensive to have the repairs done at a reputable repair place...

Any recomendations? JHB or east rand side.

@OP. How did you pay for the TV? If it was by cheque / card / bank transfer, then you can find the transaction. This can be used at the store to trace the transaction on their side.

was with card, will check back on my history if I can access it as that was when I was still with ABSA, now with FNB, and I cancelled my ABSA cheque account, it still shows on my online banking profile as I have a savings account there that I keep open to have a spare card should FNB be down etc and sitting at a restaurant etc and only costs R20 a month to keep open with a small balance. but thanks for the suggestion will check it out this evening.
