Flight Simulator 2020

wellll fukk this game completely.

It's awesome. But having a system that is the exact minimum spec for it - well, that's not going well for me. Stuttery, low frame rates and minimal detail.

I guess it was time for an upgrade anyway

You don't have to stream the satellite map data, it's an option you get prompted to turn on/off first time the game loads which you can change at any time. It also has a built in data manager you set if you don't have uncapped.

You can test it using the fitgirl repack before buying.

I signed up for games pass and had a friend download it for me.

The game doesn't use as much data as I thought and my 4mb line, although maxed out, seems to coping.

Still testing though.

Interesting, I got a warning that my line is not fast enough (20MB Fibre) when flying around New York City.

My Sandy Bridge + 1050ti PC is holding up pretty well. Got most graphic settings on medium now except texture streaming.

Night flight from JHB (lanseria) to PTA north, let see who can guess where I am in these pics?

Anyone flying with a xbox controller or similar? How is it?
I am using "virtual controller" which lets me use a mouse. It works but is a little clunky and getting in the way of the experience.

I've got a generic game pad with analogue sticks.
Suffice to say I'm awaiting delivery of a joystick.

Ah damn. I sold my joystick literally a week before FS2020 was announced. Was hoping a gamepad would work nice so could use it for Forza as well.

It's usable but it doesn't feel right controlling a plane with your thumb.

Players are fixing Microsoft Flight Simulator’s missing monuments with Google Maps

Poor Bing Maps. Microsoft Flight Simulator‘s usage of the mapping services data is so bloody awe-inspiring that any errors or gaps in the data stand out like giant, monolithic thumbs. It is missing some major landmarks, where the autogen tech has swapped out famous stadia and shiny palaces with bizarre, brutalist replacements. And the slightly humiliating solution the community has come up with is to use Google Maps to fill in the gaps.
:)

Watched some game play videos over the weekend, looks incredible, would love to give it a bash with a joystick. So tempted to pick this up but my system won't make the most of it and I want PGA 21 which is also a grand. Eish.

Microsoft Game Pass PC. R20 for the first month and R50 pm after that IIRC

Cheers! Just had a squizz at some of the games, think I'll go this route for a few months, they seem to have a decent library and there are a few others there I'm keen on.

Welcome to the world of "well, ****. I need to empty my bank account on new hardware" :D

Tried a bit over the weekend.
Was a tad disappointed that local sights aren't modeled correctly. Like a beautiful 80m waterfall has been turned into a little rapid. But then again, it's flight simulator, not real world scenery simulator.

Playing with a keyboard is pure hell. and my old Logitech strikeforce just doesn't seem to work properly with this game.

On the plus side my old PC still ran at medium settings!

Lucky :D

I can run on medium graphics with GPU at around 70%... but CPU pegs at 100, I get freezes, super slow load times. 4th gen i5 just nowhere near enough.

Ok maybe 'ran at medium' was optimistic. FS selected medium so I went with it. But yeah, it takes forever to load as I wasn't using my SSD and there were indeed freezes.
