Looking for decent and free or trail software that can properly capture video streams and or audio streams. Then, skype I suppose can record calls made on it?

Not sure if this is suitable to your needs, but I use the following online conversion sites to download .flv from streaming video sites:

Freecorder actually does a pretty decent job on these files, sure it installs a Toolbar from which the interface is run - but I use it on a constant basis for EXACTLY what you want

u can also try viso downloader. It can capture some streaming video feeds
