FNB Bank charges

yep deposit via the ATM is free of bank charges.

The reason behind this is also to pave the way for a range of new ATM machines that FNB will be expanding throughout the country -it's currently available at select locations- where your deposit gets credited realtime to your account.

It may be old news ot other banks - I don't know- but having your money available instantly makes it very appealing - along with the zero charges for the deposit.

No - I don't work for FNB.

Im with FNB...have a LifeStart Account. Pay 19.50 a month and THATS IT. Love it. Hate carrying cash i always swipe. Btw that real time cash deposit ATM would be flipping fantastic! Cant tell you how many times i been in a jam cause i cant get money cause the banks are closed.

no man, you do have money, only it's cash?? sosososososo when you have cash you be in a jam until it's e-money?

Some FNBs have special ATM's, one for cash deposits and one for cheque deposits.
The cheque deposit machine scans in your cheque, and makes you enter in all the details.
It then prints a confirmation, and a picture of the cheque it scanned in. It works nicely.

The cash deposit machine has a huge slot that you stick your money in and it counts the money in the machine, and then spits out the notes it can't read. You can generally get it too accept the notes if you try a couple of times, and it usually only happens with slightly dirty or bent notes.

I didn't get charged anything when I used both these options, although the cash deposit one was a slightly frustrating experience, it took 5 tries for it to take most of money, and i eventually gave up and kept the notes it wouldn't take.

I have struck up a deal with my landlord.

He gets paid in cash quite often, and I take the cash from him and pay him electronically for the cash. It saves me from paying to draw cash, and it saves him from depositing it.

But ... it's not a perfect system, I don't always need that much cash, but, every 2 months or so it seems to work wonderfully.

im on fnb business account. Their small business fees are for sure the most reasonable. For my personal banking, I use nedbank

No. I live far from home and my mom banks with ABSA. So if i need money in a hurry she has to draw money and deposit it.which she cant do if the banks are closed. Internet transfer would take 2days to clear. When that happens i just log myself into my dads FNB account and give myself money:-P i really really hate carrying cash or drawing cash...one of the things that irritates me about uni campus is everything is cash and the atm is such a long long walk... Everyone should have swipe machines. Cant wait for the day when we can pay using our cellphones!

I don't pay bank fees for a lot of things ,for instance I can withdraw my money from any machine for free, I do my internet banking for free, I can transfer my money to ther banks for free. It's when your finances start going t1ts up that the banks start nailing you. For instance if a direct debit get's bounced it could cost anthing up to ÂŁ40 if you over draw on your account even by ÂŁ1 they start charging you ÂŁ6 a day until you go back into a positive balance.

They ALWAYS make their money back and more somehow...

If I had a choice I'd keep my savins under my mattress, I have a big dislike of modern day banks...

Have a look at http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim , alot of people are getting rebates on the high fees charged when direct debits get bounced or for going over your overdraft etc. Based on legislature that the banks can only charge you for any loss they have suffered due to your lack of funds when the account was debited. Which is minimal, perhaps some admin

From early 2006 until July 2007, it’s estimated the banks paid out nearly a billion pounds to 100,000s of reclaimers to avoid going to court.
I understand this has been put on hold until the outcome of a test case, but you can still claim back if you are experiencing financial difficulty or if your
finances start going t1ts up
:) Template letters etc are available on the website to send to your bank. This is why I love first world countries

Now FNB have managed to p1ss me off. On the 19th my credit card had a credit balance but they debited R102.26 for interest and credited me R0.02 for the credit balance  Does that make sense to anyone? For them to charge me that much interest at say 17% pa my balance would have to be roughly -R7200. They're stealing money from me FFS

The debit interest rate on mine is 23% while the credit interest rate is staggered from 0.25% to 4% depending on the amount in credit.

Interest in charged on cash withdrawal, transfers out, fuel, and toll fees from the date of transaction. On transactions that fall into the interest free period (normal POS transactions), you will be charged interest from the date of the transaction, if you exceed the interest free period for payment.

i know this is an old thread, but is it right that FNB charges me R7 everytime i make a transfer between my cheque account and my Credit Card?

I think it's disgusting
I agree. I thought it would be no cost to transfer that way, rather than deposit inside the bank. But now I'm a bit annoyed even though it's only R7, but it all adds up if you do alot of transfers.

I'm pretty sure I asked for this, thus I never botherd to Check. It's only today that I bothered to really look, and noticed this. Bad error, but I'll get to the bank on Tuesday and discuss this with them.
