We are in the process of opening an account with a supplier. They are insisting on a Bankers Code Letter as part of the application process. This is not the normal bank confirmation letter.

We have been back and forth with FNB for two weeks about this. They say they do not provide these anymore. The company we are opening the account with, insists that they have to. The bank call centre has no clue what we are talking about, and in branch, it’s not much better, but eventually when they do get through to someone who does understand, they just come back saying FNB no longer provides these.

Anyone been in the same boat? How/where does one get such a letter? I know this was a thing about 15 years ago, but I also haven't heard anyone ask for this in a very long time, until now.

It doesn't have to be by your main banker, any credit services provider can issue one

Find a other supplier?
That would be great - but not exactly practical at this point in time.
Maybe you are the first new customer the supplier has signed in 15 years?
Doubtful, its a massive multinational corporation, with thousands upon thousands of clients in the transport industry.

Thanks, will look into other options.
