Just got an email from FNB...

Two changes I could see straight up:
FNB purchase protection.jpg
Purchase protection on a cheque card instead of a credit card is quite cool

Looks like they're trying to enforce withdrawals at till point rather than ATM. They aren't specific as to whether that lowers your points, or eliminates your eBucks earning altogether.

They are also offering discounts on uncapped ADSL (FNB Connect) depending on your earn level (level 5 gets 100% discount; level 1 gets 10%).

I could be wrong, but it seems as if they are eliminating cash back for fuel purchases (enforcing eBucks rewards instead)

ebucks is so complex!

I tried to take a look at what I have ... with the rewards, levels, different percentages, discount level etc ... fuel, shopping, airtime etc They should really just simply things slightly

Yeh, they're ruining a great product by adding complexity.

Fortunately it doesn't apply to me anymore :p

Seems ok , most stuff i do anyway , drawing cash at till i do anyway , i buy stuff online each month anyway(movie tickets , usenet server etc).

I think I will be moving off to Capitec when they get a decent credit card.

eBucks is getting to fscking complicated to keep track of now.

I agree, eBucks needs to be simplified as it is way too complicated. I also think some of the requirements is ridiculous.

e.g I have a bond, but in order to earn more points, I should take out a person loan too. Kinda crazy as it encourages debt.

It encourages profit for FNB (which your debt generates)

I agree, and I knw they need to make money, but at some point, I am sure all there extra products you take will end up costing more than the returns in eBucks.

Glad I'm with Capitec. Simplicity is the future.

You now collect 300 points each for these. You will also collect 100 points for holding an active fluid account, or have an active fluid account linked to your FNB Cheque Account. Was 200 per product is now 300.

You will now earn on BOTH your qualifying fuel AND prepaid airtime spend. Quite cool , you earn on both now.

Maintaining a minimum balance in your account no longer applies. Can't get these easy points anymore.

You earn additional reward level points if you withdraw more cash from Cash@Till than ATMs, don't have any branch transactions in a month, and shop online with your qualifying FNB Cheque Card. Seems decent , i draw mostly at pick and pay.

Indeed I benefit immensely from the changes :) I will be able to achieve the highest level by holding LESS products :D so awesome. And really excited about the 100% ADSL discount. They state that the maximum value of this 100% discount is R399. So will have to wait and see exactly which one of their packages costs R399 but to me that sounds like at least a 2mbps line. BOOOM! Here are the new rules and breakdown of points:

Also noticed some big changes for FNB Private Clients: on top of free ADSL you can also get up to a 100% discount on your Smart Device. No jokes. Also the maximum eBucks earn rate for them is now 3%. Very compelling offer.

No complaints from me either, am nearly on the top tier, and the new rules benefit me too

The till withdrawals is quite an interesting idea. I wonder if it reduces the security costs for the retailers keeping cash on hand.

They are not the first with this. Cash from retailers has two advantages, banks don't have to bother with transporting cash and retailers can get rid of cash without banking it.

Yeah, PicknPay themselves I think did it with Go Banking IIRC. I wonder what sort of commission they get from each transaction?

I've only been with FNB for a year, so it's only now that my ranking is starting to creep up. It's a black voodoo magic though, I don't really know what's influencing it. I'm guessing that's on purpose, on their part.
