Any one have any luck with this? :(

i have tried it with both sip, and iax trunks, but it wont connect / work :(

any suggestions?

Don't know about Asterisk but I've successfully used my FNB Connect account as a SIP trunk in Freeswitch, so I'm sure it would work in Asterisk too. It's just a standard SIP account after all.

How familiar are you with this kind of stuff - specifically with dynamic NAT etc?

I use it daily without problems for my outbound calls to cell phones :

My sip settings are as follows :

register = 087572xxxx:[email protected]/087572xxxx

[087572xxxx]
type=friend
host=voice.fnbconnect.co.za
username=087572xxxx
secret=mysupersecretpassword
auth=md5
disallow=all
allow=g729
timezone=Africa/Johannesburg
trunkfreq=20
trunk=yes
qualify=yes
qualifysmoothing=yes
requirecalltoken=no
insecure=port,invite

Have you checked that you're using the correct SIP codecs? FNB only supports G729 and GSM codecs. If you try using a different codec with FNB it won't work.

thanks warwickw , my registration string was wrong, i gave this a wirl on 3cx as well, and its waaaay easier, and as its for a branch of 5 people, i;m thinking i may just use 3cx there

whom would you guys recommend for a voice provider for a smallish branch ( 5 people) ?

fnb? vox?

as a bonus, we would like to try keep the current telkom number ( its one of them portable phone gizmo's)

Speak to Switchtel they can port your number across to a SIP trunk.

If you are into Linux and Security, you can always get yourself a VM from WebAfrica and run Asterisk/FreePBX on it effectively creating your own hosted PBX. Alternatively run Elastix inside your network and link to the likes of Switchtel.

Just remember if you do create your own hosted PBX on a public IP address, you must secure it well ie complex passwords for extentions, and use SIP domains, also run Fail2Ban to block IP addresses trying to hack your system.
