just so nobody else falls for this the 3G prepaid databundles on FNB connects Website (https://www.fnbconnect.co.za/surf-rate-calculator.shtml / Options : Consumer / 3G Prepaid Data bundles )
is for Vodacom Prepaid data bundles. not for FNB.

what is the most annoying is that i called them to ask how you purchase these and the guy told me that you just topup and that's it. i did and then it started using data at the flat rate instead of the bundle rate. all this came to be cause Telkom will take 25 days to fix a line fault on my ADSL!

Wasn't aware FNB had their own cellular network now too.

Did you provision your sim and setup the apn and all that other stuff to use the fnb connect prepaid data?

Oh yes. I use the data that i payed for from fnb connect regularly when im about. r50 worth of ebucks and there you go. But since telkom shagged me over i need a alternative connection with a bit more data. So i went to buy the bundle they advertise. The trick here is those bundles arent for fnb connect data. They are reselling vodacom databundles there a slight bit cheaper. But they dont tell you that those are vodacom products. noooo.

See here: https://www.fnbconnect.co.za/products-consumer-surf.shtml

It clearly states that you need a Vodacom Service Provider contract.

Did you think FNB has it's own mobile network?

The one page says you have to be on contract, but the other page allows you to purchase "3G Prepaid Bundles".
They should make it clearer.
