Basically, it's a free account, use it for facebook and if you're happy with Netflix at 720.

I got an email saying I can get 100% discount on my FNB connect so it's something I would definitely like to look into!

Latest posts here are more about the portals and billing than the actual performance of the service.

Also, what does the FUP look like?

EDIT: I see P2P is throttled/blocked. Which should be fine as I use my ADSL for streaming. Still bad? Lots of complaints as far as I see.

For me it works perfect. Runs at line speed permenantly for DSTV, youtube streaming and downloads etc. P2P is hit and miss, but mostly hit. It is free, don't even hesitate to register for it. Even if it's just a backup. P2P will eventually download at line speed, just depends on FNB's mood at the time - i haven't really needed to torrent anything urgently. But, be mindful that should you drop below ebucks RL5 you will pay a prorated amount.

Overall experience has been good for what it is.
 
@Method, i use it as a primary account but i have backup accounts. I had trouble connecting to the FNB account about ten days ago so changed over to my Telkom account as my primary. FNB account works great for NNTP though IF you have a paid sub to another news server provider.

Quite happy with it as a free account. Wouldn't pay more than R50 for it though if i had to pay.

The other posters above have covered other aspects of the account.

I've been doing some testing at the moment. My line syncs at 5mb (although I have a 4mb line) and this is how FNB's 4mb and 6mb accounts run on my line, compared against Crystal Web CAPPED package. Would be interested in seeing how other ISP's uncapped accounts work with netflix, any takers?

Your first month is free on netflix, sign up for your trial account and then cancel within your trial month after the tests.

Yeah I've been using only fnb connect for the last almost 2 months and it feels like it's gradually getting worse. At first managed fine with 3.4mbps but lately has gone down significantly to around 2. Last night actually switched to backup account as I couldn't stream an episode. Really hope they are up scaling their network together with signing up the new customers. Doesn't feel like it.
 
My general browsing speeds and ping (144ms) have gone to the dogs in the last 36 hours or so. Anyone else found this? Was working brilliantly for the 25 days prior (a guesstimate).

No change on this side. Just did a speedtest with ping 52 and speed 3.4. For the last month my connection's been fine. At around 19:00 in the evenings I do find that it tends to struggle with streaming. But this improves again by say 21:00. Been streaming a lot of series and Supersport in HD relatively okayish.

Sounds like you are throttled similar to what I am.

What has your usage been more or less this month.

I got told between 250-300gb will see me being throttle which seems about right.

Way to go on the loose numbers though.

I would have to check, but I've done no news server downloads or torrents, only general browsing and YouTube on 480p on most days for a bit.

Easily under 50gb for the last 21 days.

Yeah that doesn't sound right then.

Switched to my Afrihost 1Gb last night and all was back to normal so it's definitely not a line issue on my side.

I can't tell you my usage as the site isn't reporting it. I do share the account with an auntie but I doubt she is dowloading the internet :)

Yeah it's pretty crazy that you can't see your usage.

Didn't realize you can share it. Should load it up for my old man.
 
Hmm something is odd.

I am right now pulling up to 9Mbps on my 6Mbps account! Not complaining, but thats unusual for this account :)

Has anyone had issues using Showmax using FNB uncapped? Showmax gives me a connection issue on the Apple TV.
