FNB eBucks problems - Check your petrol spend for issues

Haha. Love the "I spent loads of money" pride.
In order to 'save' that many feebucks, you needed to spend much more.

Get 15% back on groceries at Shoprite and you'll be getting better value than virtually anyone else in South Africa. Cheap prices + max returns + occasional Salmonella.

“eBucks is aware that a small portion of its members are experiencing in-store transactions incorrectly being reflected as fuel transactions when purchasing goods at selected fuel stations,” Moolman said.

This is lingo for: "We know about the problem. We have no idea how big it is or how many are affected by it. So long as only a few read this article, we should get away without too much fuss".

People need to read the t and c's more carefully. It states you also have to add your vehicle registration details to the"my cars" section

You are not entitled to rewards. If you don't like the game, don't play. It's a free market.

I hope you understand that these systems are doing everything they can to undermine the foundation of how the free market provides efficient goods and services. They take commodity products like petrol with clear pricing and mobile buyers, and creates opaque pricing through combining what should be unrelated services, and this 100% fuel spend creates further lock-in through a sense of sunk costs. Everyone thinks they're very clever going up against FNBs team of actuaries, but please give them they credit they deserve. They do ensure the house always wins.

To be clear, I don't mind the discounts where they are encouraging people to shop at particular partners. My complaint is much more centered around them punishing one for buying from unauthorised stores.

A lot of these 'discounts' aren't even discounts...

Guys I work with have FNB and think they are getting cheaper flights, but a quick Skyscanner or Kayak search reveals the discounted price to be higher than the market price.

Same goes for discovery and pick n pay... They only offer the discount on the undiscounted/rip off fruit and veg (not the cheaper bulk or loose packs)...

So, no, I'm not saying shop at ShopRite, I'm saying before you pat yourself on the back for getting such a 'good deal' maybe check once or twice and realise you have probably been duped!

Most people here know better than to use ebucks for flights.
The vouchers and weekly deals are where the real discounts lie.

Every month, I get R1500 dischem vouchers (Soon to be R2000 since my wife is now on level 5) and then end up with a decent amount of ebucks left to buy stuff I want.
This is without spending a cent more than I would at any other bank.

I would say check your savings rates (and bond) FNB is not competitive on most rates...

But your getting close to convincing me (not kidding!)

The only saving I have with FNB is the advanced amounts from paying extra into my bond and a small amount I save for rainy days.

I opened a gold fusion account for my wife with FNB and the only product listed on her profile is the bond we share (using the calculator, I can see it would be possible to hit level 5 even with no other products)
The account costs R109, we spend around R4000 on her account and then get back a R500 Dischem voucher and R100 Kauai voucher every month.

Every cent I spent was going to be spent anyway, so if I can score close to R100k per annum doing what I'd have to do anyway, I'll take it anyday

I don't "know better". I check their pricing against other sources and use whichever one provides me with the best deal (which has been ebucks on occasion, other sites at other times). I travel very regularly (as Sinbad pointed out) and don't have a hard & fast rule regarding providers.

I have to buy petrol, online taxis and groceries anyway *shrug*

I'm not going to complain that I need to do it at Engen, Uber and Checkers ...

That's absolute nonsense.

eBucks travel is a travel agent. Not everyone flies using eBucks. They wouldn't survive if they didn't align to normal pricing.

is the educks card for those people who want ebucks but are not fnb clients?

i assume as an fnb client you would not need to get one right?
