My premier banker sent me an email today offering to upgrade me from platinum to FNB Graphite. She listed all the rewards and value – adds and basically said “…I will only be managing Graphite portfolios in future, which means upgrading retains myself as your banker.”

I have used the premier banker service A LOT in the past and received awesome service. There’s a private bank branch in Century City that I use whenever I need to do stuff in branch that’s just around the corner from work.

Besides the premier banking and the few additional perks on Graphite, do you think it’s worth paying an extra R146 (R199 vs R345) for Graphite? I’ve also considered other private banking options, like Investec and found their offerings to be favourable (Investec is R400 p/m). How does the graphite offering compare?

i would take it , the graphite cards looks awesome!!

there is no cap on ebucks last time i checked on graphite.

No, its not worth it in my opinion.

Unless you travel a boat load, the perks are not that much better than on Platinum. Also from my experience, the Premier bankers are useless so if they're "upgrading" them to Graphite bankers they'll be just as useless.

10 years ago they were awesome - don't know :wtf: happened, can't say I was impressed with the latest lot up until I closed my account.

Uh it sounds like he has a personal platinum banker, so upgrading to graphite for that is worth it, if platinum won't have personal platinum bankers anymore. Although it sucks that they force you to pay more to keep that perk.

Pretty sure private banking had better ebucks perks than graphite. So not really sure why graphite is worth it... not that I qualify anyways, so doesn't matter.

Private bankers will come to your office to drop off documents, deliver cards to you etc. Which is handy when the courier f...s up as CCD couriers often does.

I have a personal platinum banker, and she is useless, as are the 4 I had before her....
If they take away that "perk" i honestly won't miss it because they're so pathetic.

If they want to charge more for that perk then they are welcome to, I won't partake.

Atm graphite uses the platinum rules , which means its eays to get to lvl 5.

Wonder if graphite will still use the plat earning rules from tomorrow .

Graphite sounds good then if it is still going to use plat rules which means level 5 is easy to reach , but with some perks of private banking.
Also no cap which is great for high spenders.

I warn you about switching from graphite/platinum to private client... you will go back to reward level 1. I went from level 4 to 1. Not much of an upgrade from FNB.

With regards to the OP question. The only reason I see to upgrade form platinum to graphite is to remove the ebucks earning cap.

Thats a bit of a harsh stance to take. One should probably read the ebucks reward rules for private banking instead then decide according to that. I am sure it is not that hard to get to level 5 on private banking, as long as you read the rules and jump the necassary hoops. At private level you should be able to afford it.

Thanks for the opinions guys but is there anyone that actually has experience using this account? I'd like to hear from you.

I've also gotten offered, but I'm not seeing the value in switching.
AFAIK they're not removing my named banker from Platinum so I'm not enticed

Yeah I was offered as well..

Did the numbers and it made absolutely no financial sense. I also haven't lost my banker either, not that I use them if I can help it.

I use the account, heres a summary of my thoughts

1. Premier Banker - meh, pretty useless, basically an email fowarder. I can achieve results far faster on my own. They have no authority to make decisions, they basically get in the middle of you and the next department. They can do useful stuff like open accounts on your behalf and send you stamped bank statements but for the rest of it this is not private banking service.
2. Uncapped ebucks - my main reason for changing to Graphite.
3. I travel a bit so the priority pass and avis p2p has come in handy a few times and its free, so definitely a perk if you are going to be travelling
4. Slow international also free vs chargeable on platinum

The rest is all marketing babble, but on the above i definitely make the R4140 in bank fees pa work for me. If they change the eBucks rules to align with private banking i would need to reassess.

Hope this helps

Cheers

Isn't the Priority Pass only free for a year?

They sent me a card in Jan 13 and then i got a renewal card in Jan 14 and my allowance of 10 visits was updated for the year..

How are you getting your eBucks earn so high?
