FNB launches QR code payments for its banking app

I don't think it has that functionality.

FNB app already has the facility to send bank details in an SMS / whatsapp / email / whatever your preferred sharing method.

They would still need to copy/paste the numbers into the appropriate fields to create a new beneficiary though.

Where do you find that function?

The whole banking details thing is the most archaic kak I've ever seen and the potential for error is so large it's insane.

A QR code or other scanning ability would be perfect.

NFC or QR? Had NFC on my Samsung S4, don't think I ever got around in using it, in the 3 years I had it.
NFC :-) I've also had it since my S4 and have used it to transfer between phones :-)

Definitely needed. Also the ability to auto-populate the reference field too. This way an online store can have a QR code on checkout that auto-populates all the fields required to make payment via EFT.
Raru actually has that, though their service has been crap.

Not aware of any banks supporting QR codes for EFT payments in SA. What payment option are you choosing and banking app for this? (note: this is NOT the same as Masterpass or similar apps, since those are card payments, which most stores support nowadays)

Raru, you scan the QR code with Zapper and bam, simple and easy. If all online stores used snapscan or zapper it would be a breeze.

With my Nedbank Money app i can scan any QR straight from log in screen? Have been able to do so for a while, paid zapper, snapscan etc...

Okay, but that's a card payment and not an EFT :) A lot of online stores support this.

We were referring to EFT payments using QR codes, which is not currently possible.

This works with Zapper, Snapscan and Masterpass. Some QR codes require some additional information that the FNB app does not support yet.

Tried using it earlier at Dischem with a Zapper code. Didn’t work.

This is the reason that some Chinese phone makers (like Xiaomi) don't have NFC in their phones, as the Chinese uses QR-codes instead. Apparently it's very popular over there.

I live in Asia, NFC payments is supported by most places like 711. But mostly the locals use cash.

If they do use mobile payments it is Line Pay.

Mastercard is totally useless.
I tried to go thru to Customer Care/service 0800 990418 and (after being told MANY times how busy they were), tried their head office 011-7803900. Even their switchboard could not help.
GOD help FNB.
