FNB makes its move into telecoms

HTTP & FTP are used for general browsing and get priority over other protocols on a shaped account.

Try other protocols, like P2P, to see whether the FNB connection is shaped

Does that include NNTP? is the FNB account SAIX or IS though?

@wishblade & lcbxx; I am impressed to see that the both of you are quite happy to sit back and watch as your bank opens up non banking services using it's current facilities.

I also suspect that you both are quite happy to wait even longer in the info desk queue for a bank related query to be answered because the same people who used to answer your banking queries are now trying to explain to somebody what a DNS is, or having an argument with a customer that is trying to swap out a VOIP phone.

Well, I am not.

The support number for the FNB Connect services is an 087 number. I wonder how that VOIP service is going to hold up when the network is actually being used.

Absolutely nothing wrong with their core business. I've been a client of them for almost 10 years now and I've only received good service. Nothing wrong with their core business...better than most other banks.
Well, do you want to keep it that way?
Why change a working formulae?

Ever seen a talking dog? But then when have you come across a bank that helps you save up to 50% on your calls? It's no wonder everyone wants Connect from FNB. Play the video, forward it on and you could win 1 of 4 Nokia E71 cellphones!

Is it not false advertising saying every one?

Boy, if my dogs could talk....erm. I wonder. Maybe that is a good thing.

Hi Guys

If you have any queries regarding FNB Connect, drop me a mail at [email protected], and ill try answer all your questions.

What do you guys think of FNB Connect.

Good and Bad feedback welcome.

Not really impressed with the speed, the same as my shaped account. latency still there.

Correct me if I am wrong but does shaped vs. unshaped only matter when you are downloading something? Speed Should be dependant on your line & contention Y/N?

So VOIP, they forgot to mention the Data cost involved and the so-called penalty caluse by certain provider like MTN charging R20+/MB for VOIP traffic via your phone?

Unshaped means all your data requests will be best possible effort by Telkom, while shaped data would be prioritised according to some criteria, like Web browser traffic, email would be first and everything else will be after. So people playing online games and using VOIP software to call overseas people will experience delay.

I agree but if you buy bundles from your service provider, it becomes extremely cheap.

Yes, but my point was to be ethical they should mention these relevant cost somewhere on their website, otherwise I really would consider this is false advertising/misleading as certain information was withheld to the general public who's not very familiar with VoIP.

Good Point. Perhaps they should mention that. But do the MVO's really track what you use their data for...? Kind of invasive if you ask me.

World of Warcraft

Using this account, I cannot even connect to WoW Login servers...
