FNB makes its move into telecoms

Knowing that FNB have had some sort of ISP offering for some time, surely their support lines should be open beynod 08:800 - 16:00???... considering this could well be a critical service for certain people???

What's the story with this:
Carmen Roux, CEO of FNB Connect, pointed out that users from all major networks, except Vodacom, can make calls to both their ConnectXtra and ConnectChat subscribers with 087 numbers. The cost for calls from a Telkom phone to a FNB Connect 087 number is around R 1.00 per minute.

This is a rather important bit of information that's not mentioned on your site. (or well hidden)

Also, does FNB charge any service fees for the purchase of the VOIP or ADSL prepaid via Internet Banking?

One would assume a bank would have thought this through properly.. considering the facilities at their disposal.
 
I like this offering. Will work well for me. I registered and got online in mins from starting. Using the FNB ADSL account for all my international browsing and downloads while I can now use my Telkom account to grab all the local stuff. Got to love routesentry!!

No complaints from me so far!!

It was in the article. They also mentioned that those charges were theoretical and never applied.

I had the exact same issue - I cant even connect to the wow login servers.

In additional, I can browse the net, but I can't ping anything? Is it just me or is everyone having this issue on fnbconnect?

I phoned last night at about 7:45 and they were open. Think it could be a typo on the website. They said that they are open til 8.

Some answers to your questions:

- We keep consumers updated in the news section (including home page) about incoming calls
- FNB Connect prepaid VoIP or ADSL data can only be purchased when logged into FNB Connect. You are not charged a service fee when this purchase is made.

The best way to describe it is two fold:

1) On shaped accounts they might be limiting the quality of certain protocols like downloading Youtube or using VOIP based solutions like Skype, You will she a big difference in voice quality between Shaped vs unshaped.

2) The latency on unshaped accounts is usually much better 350 to 500ms for shaped and below 300ms for unshaped. So when you have a 1000 web objects loading the unshaped line will be faster because it can carry the same load but responds quicker to the requests. That is why online games and share trading applications benefit from unshaped bandwidth.

I hope that clarifies it a bit for you. :)

I managed to connect to WoW, don't know the issues with you guys. This is perfect.
 
FNB Telecoms

As FNB have virtually shut down their lending division, I expect that some staff have been redeployed to the new unit!

Whilst I'd prefer that they stick to their core business (a hard enough task), if their venture assists to heighten general awareness of VoIP, all of us in that space will benefit.

I suppose as an FNB customer, I better go try it out to see what the fuss is about!

sorry guys, i know this is an old thread... but just wanted to find out, with the insane price cuts from afri, will we be seeing a cut in fnbconnects unshaped data? anyone know anything here?
