FNB Mobile to launch soon

Now this I am considerably more interested in than that still born mess that its me&you

If it's on Cell C then it's dead before it even started.

Totally agreed on this point....

I actually feel sorry for the guys launching me&you... its going to fail spectacularly from a data point of view...

The last plans were the use Cell C, I hope these are different because that network is terrible.
Its doomed to fail before it even starts if they dont partner with a better network.

FNB Mobile to me was always the most obvious fit for an MVNO play : they have a massive user base, they are innovative, they sell devices already, they have a powerful app and they have voip experience - all the key ingredients.

I have 4 sims on Cell C, 3 on MTN and one Vodacom. Cell C is not worse in my area and in fact I recall more than once cutting a business call and re-calling from Cell C to get a better line

I am trying out MandU but I don't expect them to grow much as they don't have enough brand association, unless they carve a real niche via low-cost operations (if they are modelling themselves on the Danish market)

In both Sandton and Randburg I get long periods of time with zero data throughput at all on Cell C.

IMHO, You cannot launch a competitive Mobile service while roaming on another operators infrastructure, you have no control over network quality, and you don't have much room for negotiating wholesale rates, not to mention the lack of long-term strategic planning necessary for marketing initiatives.

Couple that with a network like Cell-C = Disaster! I wouldn't want my company to be associated with such a poor experience.

I don't need to defend Cell C as they are not my customer at the moment, but to potentially make your life easier, I wonder if there is a technical solution you could try. If not, can't you put serious pressure on Cell C to resolve this as their office and a big whack of their revenue all come from that very area.

Their FNB Connect 3g Data deals are only available to customer with Vodacom or MTN sim cards - so not sure which network they will launch on

I've had their network techs out, they've done signal surveys, and nothing has changed. Their helldesk's advice to me is "roam on vodacom".

VC Edge is better than hell C HSDPA, but still not good enough. Hence, my signature.

That may be applicable to most MVNOs who still have to acquire a customer base. FNB already comes with a massive user base, providing more room for negotiation...

I'll take a wait and see approach. This is FNB with some of the most attractive data deals but it's only Cell C that would enable anyone to offer decent value for money. Just wish everyone would rather just announce something when it's launched and stop creating hype without delivering.

A massive banking user base, not a mobile user base.

Who will you be calling when there are service issues?
