FNB ordered to withdraw its Steve advertisements

Just "Beep" out the offending name. SABC has been doing that for years.

Tough on anyone called Beep, but they would get bullied anyway.

next they should do Vuyo or whatever his name is with the money babies from Nedbank...

Eugene? My cousin's name is Eugene and that ad irks him to no end :p

That Nedbank (N)Eugene guy comes across as a very irritating ignoramus, he needs to use condoms with extra spermicide when he is busy making his money babies (to save the planet from any potential offspring).

Does this mean no more 'van der Merwe' or 'Mike' jokes?

What about all those 'Jannie' jokes I used to enjoy so much? All gone?

So much other terrible shyte going on and people make a hullaballoo about something this damn insignificant ........ wow.

Seems like a bit of an unnecessary over-reach but no real harm done either way.

Yip - you can't let the small stuff slide just because bad sht is happening though. Especially on the media & freedom of speech front...that stuff matters if one is interested in avoiding the banana republic fate.

Mike jokes? Example please :)

I have to say that FNB got this latest don't be a Steve campaign all wrong: Steve was the poor schmuck that had the misfortune of working for b(l)eep bank and Steve eventually saw through the propaganda that b(l)eep bank was paying him to peddle as a customer retentions officer, Steve even went as far as opening up FNB accounts and was buying stuff with his eBucks.

FNB betrayed Steve, their customer, that works for b(l)eep bank, with this don't be a Steve campaign.

That said, has anyone ever noticed how many Steves work for Telkom and that have been caught out telling white lies to the public? Parents should know better than to give their kids the name Steve(n)/Stephen if for no other reason than to reduce the chances of the kid growing up only to work for Telkom.

Or slipping and giving a clear run at goal to a guy called Demba when the Premier League Title was all but won.

Not sure about the children thing, but the demise of this line of advertising will not be missed!

I also won't miss it. They can put my monthly fees to better use

DStv is clearly ignoring this as I just watched (10 min ago) the UN-STEVE your business advertisement on channel 122.
