I've installed 8.04 and my main problem is really that the fonts just suck (really terrible) for both Opera and FF3 when rendering certain pages, myadsl is a good example.

I've attempted to install the msttcorefonts, and tried a few other fixes, but I'd like to know how you guys achieve good font rendering in FF/Opera. It is looking alright at the moment for certain parts, but still very different (and worse imo) to normal Windows fonts.

I Agree. I tried the same route of installing the MS fonts, but there was little or no improvement. Fonts feel blurry or overly thin IMO. Happily this is probably the biggest problem I have with Ubuntu, so it keeps me very happy

Have you looked in the Fonts section in Apperance and adjusted the font smoothing/sub pixel rendering settings?

In Firefox have you changed the way it handles fonts in the Preferences tab>Content>Fonts & Colours choose advanced, make sure you untick the box for " Allow Pages to choose own font....." I know this helps with Myadsl fonts which just looking shocking in Kubuntu Firefox, change that setting then play around with the actual font you want to use.

Thanks, n1hilist & web, I'll try that out tonight!
