Is it possible to force a 3G HUAWEI E220 modem onto a 3G network? I have spoken to Vodacom and they say no.

Well, I threatened one with a Colt 45 but it would not budge.....

Maybe you must explain a little bit more what you want to do. Normally you just put a SIM in and Bob's your uncle.

What I want is to use the 3G network as opposed to the 2G network. When I use the Vodacom Mobile Connect Lite software, under tools, it allows me to select the network. Once I select it, it tries to connect but then tells me I am not allowed on the network.

It seems the 2G network is stronger here.

Syndyre - I am not sure. The Vodacom Mobile Connect Lite software does not have the option.

Maybe I just don't know where it is...

Just to complete this thread....

I tried the VMC 9.1 software and it does not recognise my HUAWEI E220 card.

However I have my modem on a longer USB cable and have elevated the modem using my camera tripod and can get 3G now...no problem!!:D 3.6 Mbps:D

Jim - unfortunately my version does not have this option. I have searched for it. Thanks for the input though!

If you're using the supplied Mobile Connect software there is:

1. Go to settings
2. Choose Connection Type
3. Check on 3G Only

That's it.

Try this

Go to www.huawei.com and download the generic E220 software. I found the link from one of the threads on this forum. <just do a search> It has SMS, profiles, everything. I had the same problem. Now I'm using 3g only option.
and the HSDPA speeds are fantastic! :D

This Dash is definitely far superior than the VC lite

Thanks very much for that!!! Found it at:

I am going to install and give it a whirl.

Thanks again!!
