Ford Bronco Engines Failing With Under 10K Miles On The Clock - Carbuzz​

The Ford Bronco might be one of the hottest off-roaders at the moment, with demand far exceeding supply. But it seems you might want to rethink your order if you have one coming with the 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine.

A thread concerning the 310-hp 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 Ecoboost powertrain blowing up first appeared on December 29, 2021.

One blown engine is not a cause for concern, as there could be various reasons. But as of April 22, there are reports from 46 different Bronco owners, all complaining about the same engine.

The Bronco6G forum now has a comprehensive list of failures, including the average mileage at which the engines fail.

Rather worryingly, most of the problems are related to dropping a valve, which appears to happen at less than 10,000 miles.

Thankfully, for the owners, this means the failure is still within Ford's warranty period. Ford covers the Bronco with a basic three-year/36,000-mile warranty, a five-year corrosion warranty, a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty, roadside assistance for five years, or 60,000 miles.

"We are aware of a select number of engines with this concern, and we are investigating. If any customers are experiencing issues, they will be covered under the vehicle's 5-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty," Ford said to The Drive.

It seems like Ford is aware of the problem and is likely investigating it. This will result in issuing either a recall or a technical service bulletin.

According to the forum, these problems are only related to the second-generation 2.7-liter EcoBoost and not the engines used in Lincolns and other Ford models.

Apparently, the problem stems from a bad batch of valves Ford received from a third-party supplier. A now-deleted account owned by somebody claiming to work at Ford's plant said that the bad batch contained valves with a metal composition that goes brittle due to engine heat. Most of these models were made in April 2021.

The information on the forum does not align with that, however. The failures span from May 2021 to October 2021, and during that time, Ford sold 20,000 Broncos. However, it's not clear how many were 2.7 EcoBoost models.

The Bronco6G forum is currently asking owners to file complaints with the NHTSA so it can better track the problem and possibly force Ford to do a proper investigation.

Ford Bronco Raptor fans are in for some good news as CEO Jim Farley has revealed the highly anticipated model is more powerful than originally estimated.

While the automaker had projected the SUV’s twin-turbo 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 would produce more than 400 hp (298 kW / 406 PS), it’s officially rated at 418 hp (312 kW / 424 PS) and 440 lb-ft (596 Nm) of torque.

To put those numbers into perspective, the Bronco comes standard with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder developing up to 300 hp (224 kW / 304 PS) and 325 lb-ft (440 Nm) of torque on premium gasoline. Customers can also upgrade to a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, which churns out 330 hp (246 kW / 335 PS) and 415 lb-ft (562 Nm) of torque on premium. As a result, the Bronco Raptor has an 88 hp (66 kW / 89 PS) and 25 lb-ft (33 Nm) advantage over the 2.7-liter V6.

Ford CEO Jim Farley made the announcement about the Bronco Raptor's twin-turbo V6 on Twitter.

When Ford unleashed the 2022 Bronco Raptor on the world earlier this year, the company touted that the SUV would deliver over 400 hp. That number (and then some) was confirmed by Ford CEO Jim Farley on Twitter Wednesday. In fact, the Braptor makes 418 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque.

Power comes courtesy of Ford’s 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 that can be found in the Explorer ST and Lincoln Aviator. However, it makes even more power in the Raptor. In the crossovers, the engine “only” makes 400 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque. That power is sent through a 10-speed automatic transmission and a two-speed transfer case to all four 37-inch BFGoodrich K02 all-terrain tires. It’ll be interesting to see what sort of numbers the Bronco Raptor puts down to the ground once you get past all the parasitic loss.

That being said, the ST with the same power plant gets much better gas mileagethan the Bronco Raptor. The ST is rated at 18 mpg city, 25 mpg highway. Meanwhile, the Bronco Raptor is rated at a measly 15 city, 16 highway. You don’t care, since you just spent $80,000 on a glorified toy, but still. That’s not good.

I assume most of that terrible mileage is due to the Bronco being shaped like a manly brick with massive tires.

The Feds Are Investigating Ford Bronco Engine Failures - Jalopnik​

It only took three petitions and 32 complaints for the NHTSA to look into why some Bronco 2.7L V6 EcoBoost engines are grenading.

While it hasn’t been discussed much, more than a few Ford Bronco owners are having trouble with their 2.7L V6 EcoBoost engines.

Not anything simple like lower than reported fuel economy ratings or oil leaks. Serious problems. Engines are failing, and no one knows why.

Owners want answers and now the NHTSA is looking into what’s going on with the Ford Bronco’s engine troubles.

The engine problems are widely known in the Bronco owner world thanks to posts on everything from owner forums to Facebook. Several owners even contacted FordAuthority.com back in January about the problem.

The issue surrounds the 2.7-liter twin-turbo Ecoboost V6. Before the debut of the Bronco Raptor, this was the most powerful engine you could get in a Bronco. It makes 330 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque.

While owners are experiencing engine failure, they’re happening under different, random circumstances.

As of May 31st, 50 Bronco owners who have reported engine failures. All at low miles with many engines on the list having less than 5,000 miles; others under 3,000.

Ford is aware of the problem, with a spokesperson telling The Drive at the end of April that any owners affected will be covered by the vehicle’s warranty.

But that’s not enough for some owners. In an investigation opened on May 27th, a series of petitions were sent to the NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation.

Just over 30 owners complained directly to the agency about the engine failures. While this in no way means a recall is happening, this has the potential to affect thousands of vehicles.

Ford Bronco Sport Heritage Edition

Bronco® brand is taking trail riders to their off-road roots with the introduction of the 2023 Bronco and Bronco Sport™ Heritage and Heritage Limited editions.

The special-edition models will be available across the Bronco family lineup, including Bronco two-door, Bronco four-door and Bronco Sport SUVs. Ford will build just 1,966 units of each Heritage Limited Edition model to commemorate the year the original Bronco debuted.

"Bronco captivated America in the mid-'60s with its rugged style and uncompromising off-road agility, a legacy that is still prevalent today," said Mark Grueber, Bronco marketing manager. "With these new Heritage and Heritage Limited editions, we're paying respect to Bronco's roots with nods to some of the signature design cues from the first-generation vehicle, while continuing to build the Bronco Brand with more special editions that our customers want."

The 2023 Bronco Sport Heritage and Heritage Limited edition models are available to order for all customers now. Bronco two- and four-door models will go on sale in late 2022, with initial orders prioritized for current Bronco order holders awaiting their vehicle. Orders will open to all customers in 2023, regardless of current reservation status.

Yes, we are still salty about the fact Ford won’t bring the brilliant Bronco to the UK. And no, these fantastically retro Heritage Editions are not helping with that one bit.

These Heritage Editions pay tribute to the original, first-generation Bronco from 1966 and you can have the fancy paints and retro add-ons on the Bronco two-door, Bronco four-door or Bronco Sport SUVs. Plus, for each model there will be 1,966 (see what they did there?) extra special Heritage Limited Edition examples.

So, what do you get? Well if you want a two- or four-door full-size Bronco then the $44k Heritage Edition brings two-tone paint with an Oxford White roof, grille and wheels paired with Race Red FORD lettering up front and a choice of five throwback paint options. It also brings the 2.3-litre four-cylinder EcoBoost engine, retro square arches and the off-roady Sasquatch Package as standard – hence the lift kit and chunky tyres. Nice. We’re yet to see inside, but we’re also promised some form of tartan cloth seats and an Oxford White instrument panel.

Hennessey has modified the Ford Bronco Raptor to produce a power level once the sole preserve of supercar exotica. The VelociRaptor 500 Bronco now packs as much power as an old Porsche 911 Turbo.

Of course, the factory fresh Bronco Raptor, revealed earlier this year, already kicks out a healthy horsepower figure well north of 400bhp. To that car’s twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6, Hennessey has added a high-flow air induction kit, a bigger intercooler, and a better ECU along with a stainless-steel exhaust setup.

This liberates 500bhp and 550lb ft of torque from the six-pot, which in turn is likely to liberate choice language as it displays no doubt eye-opening turns of speed across all terrains.

Speaking of which, there’s been no modification to the suspension, so it remains as per Ford Performance’s specifications: Fox shocks, heavy-duty underbody protection, larger front and rear driveshafts over the ‘regular’ Bronco, and new control arms all round for better wheel travel.

American tuner's latest outlandish creation commands £30,000 premium over hot Ford 4x4 on which it's based

Hennessey, known for its outlandish tuning of popular American vehicles, has revealed its latest project: the Velociraptor Bronco.

The Texas-based company has uprated the Ford Bronco Raptor's 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine from 412bhp and 440lb ft to 493bhp and 550lb ft – a similar output to the old C7 Chevrolet Corvette.

It has given the SUV a new high-capacity intercooler for better air induction, tweaked its engine-management system to increase power and fitted a stainless-steel, low-flow exhaust.

The Velociraptor Bronco is expected to sprint from 0-62mph faster than the 5.6sec the Bronco Raptor can manage and could even push close to the 4.9sec time achieved by the Land Rover Defender V8.

The standard Bronco Raptor has off-road-focused features including a protective skidplate and higher ride height, and Hennessey has taken this a step further. It has fitted 18in wheels with 37-in off-road tyres, wide wheel-arch extensions, an exclusive bumper, a classic ‘bucking bronco’ livery and Velociraptor 500 badging.
