The 2023 Ford Bronco Sport Black Diamond Package Adds Off-Road Armor and Steelies

If you can add steelies to a car, you should add steelies to a car. So I guess we should all buy Bronco Sport Black Diamonds now.

If you want a Ford SUV that can brave the outdoors and hit the trails, chances are you’re considering a full-size Bronco. Its smaller Bronco Sport brother is neat, but lacks the grunt you might be after. But, Ford is hoping to change all that with a new optional off-road pack that adds steelies and armor to the baby Bronco.

Dubbed the Black Diamond Off-Road Package, the new option is available on Big Bend and Outer Banks series Bronco Sports. Unlike the big Bronco, where the Black Diamond model is its own line, here it’s an optional extra.

If you choose it for your 2023 Bronco Sport, you’ll be treated to “even more off-road capability” thanks to four steel bash plates, including a front metal skid plate, fuel tank protection, and the canister shield.

And we all know new wheels instantly up your off-roading prowess, so Ford has given the Black Diamond pack a set of 17-inch carbonized gray aluminum wheels paired with a set of all-terrain tires.

The Bronco Off-Roadeo Raptor Experience will be offered to all 2022 and 2023 Raptor buyers

Ford in the US has announced that all Bronco Raptor buyers will be invited to something called the ‘Bronco Off-Roadeo Raptor Experience’ with the purchase of their 418bhp desert racer SUV. We are very jealous indeed.

We’re told that the Raptor Experience is an “Ultra4 Racing-inspired, desert-dune conquering and Baja rock-crawling adventure outside of Las Vegas". This is not helping our envy.

The trails and teaching zones have apparently been designed with input from Ford Performance teams, Baja and King of the Hammers champions and “world-class off-roader drivers like Vaughn Gittin Jr., Loren Healy and Brad Lovell, plus industry-leading off-road experts like Bob Burns".

Ford had already been running standard Bronco Off-Roadeo experiences of course, with more than 31,000 owners and guests attending the off-road courses so far. This one is specifically designed for the Raptor, although buyers of box-fresh versions will be pleased to know that they do not have to use their own car. The full day of professional off-road coaching will take place in Ford’s own Raptors. Probably for the best.

Ford Bronco to be offered in European markets for the first time

Iconic US off-roader arrives in two trim levels with a raft of all-terrain modifications and references to its heritage

Ford will introduce its Bronco off-roader to European markets for the first time in "strictly limited numbers" and with a tight focus on extreme off-road use.

Set to be available later this year, the Ford Bronco will be offered in two trim levels: Badlands, which is more suited to extreme off-road driving, and Outer Banks.

The Bronco sold in Europe will use the same direct-injected 2.7-litre Ecoboost V6 petrol engine as the US variant, developing 330bhp and 415lb ft.

Its reserves are managed by Ford's Powershift 10-speed transmission and the car is capable of travelling at 3mph with the engine speed at 2400rpm, reducing the risk of stalling during serious off-road work.

Ford Is Pausing Production on Manual Bronco Models

The truck's two best trim levels, the Base and Everglades, are also on hold.

Building cars is hard. Building Ford Broncos, it seems, is particularly difficult. The truck’s production has been stymied at every turn by issues from chip supplies to improperly-built parts, but now it faces a new issue: The Ford Ranger. Ford is pausing production on all manual-transmission Broncos, as well as the Base and Everglades trim levels, to revamp its Michigan Assembly Plant for the next-generation Ranger.

Jalopnik spoke to a Ford representative, who said that in order to “maximize commonality on the assembly line to ensure a quality launch for the new Ranger,” Ford had to make the “difficult decision” to pause production on certain Broncos. Buyers with their sights and hearts set on those versions of Ford’s ‘froader are being told to check their local dealer — no new orders will be reaching the factory.

Hennessey VelociRaptor 500 Bronco

Hennessey, the Texas-based hypercar manufacturer and high-performance vehicle creator, has begun customer deliveries of its new 500 bhp VelociRaptor 500 Bronco Raptor. Following cold weather testing in the snowy mountains of Colorado, Hennessey's engineering team signed off the enhanced version of Ford's factory Bronco Raptor enabling production and deliveries to begin at the company's Texas headquarters.

Hennessey's engineers, who have been 'making fast cars faster' for more than 30 years, applied their expertise to the SUV's twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine to boost power and heighten drivability. A new high-capacity intercooler and proprietary engine management system tuning improve charge cooling and increase intake boost to enhance output. Total system power is rated at a dyno-proven 500 bhp and 550 lb-ft of torque - earning Hennessey's 'VelociRaptor 500' nameplate.

Hennessey's team traveled to Colorado for low-temperature, high-altitude testing in the Rocky Mountains, where this winter's conditions have been challenging. However, despite snowstorms and freezing temperatures, Mother Nature's challenges were no problem for the upgraded 4x4, fitted with Hennessey's unique 20-inch alloy wheels and 37-inch off-road tires.
