Ford Online Portal/Sync Update

I got the install to work guys. I found another install file on another ford forum. It’s for Ford sync1 v5.8 to update to 5.9. I’m not sure what’s changed though. Only time will tell

Ford Ranger Sync 3 Ford SA issues

See my emails send to FORD SA.... not Happy about the lack of:

Why did you not send me an email, Other Ford customer service staff at Ford got hold of me why not you?
First off, do you have a list of my concerns?
Because you do not address them all it seems in this mail.

You seem to quote me on all the steps which should be a place with your system on one part, You do know I am a client?
What is Ford SA duties surrounding equipping the dealers?....training and know how ect....

Please do not say to me you do not know what has gone wrong, part of the services is to find and fix issues at hand. By explaining to me how it should be do not fix or correct and or rectify current issues at hand.

Your main focus in this mail is on the Dealer issue, what about your Web site which is not equipped with following:

1. User can't register for firmware updated and notifications.
2. USB updates
3. WI-FI updates
4. If you initiate an update via WI-Fi on the Vehicle do not show connected into progress nothing of kind or any status at all, just continue to search for an update indefinitely.

I do not mind you phoning me, however for tracking purposes what we discussed you need to be backing up in an email too.going forwapps.jpgDboq4f_W0AAyo_8.jpgDboVmOfXkAAHZnQ.jpgFord sa Tweet.PNG

Hi All

Can you confirm which apps you have loaded/use on your sync system?

I have the 4" TFT screen, anyone with this system and what apps are you using?

Hi Ford Owner

Is there no online SA portal for Ford owners where you may view warranty information, update SYNC etc.?
I've seen the US one, tried to register but does not recognize SA VIN number.

Have any of you updated SYNC software yourself? And where did you download from?

tia
I am liaising with Ford South Africa to get this in place because there are various platforms available to Ford owners in the world to update and download, Via Wi-fi on the car memory stick via website or dealership but none for South Africa. I am working taking them to task lol... pushing hard for Ford SA to get this in place.
In my case is it for My Ford Ranger XLT. I have been using Android auto via USB cable since 2017 as my Ranger do not have maps on board however with Android auto I have Google and Waze on my screen. I am pushing for the new sync 3 V3.0 update which will allow Waze on the menu bar, and applink to be enabled to SA owner and users.

Ford South Africa has decided to disable Applink by default for the South African users not sure why I can get a straight answer mainly excuses.
Why is this important, because this allows for your Android apps to be used on you infotainment systems on sync 3 systems.

My screen is 7" on my Ranger XLT, however, it should on any sync 3 system.
I use Android auto since 2017 via a USB cable which allows maps like Google and Waze maps on my screen, various audio apps work, I am now pushing for Youtube Videos to playback, but Android has imposed restriction by 2nd parties apps that will allow you to do this.
When Ford enable Applink you should be able to use many apps for Android

to me
Hi Andre,

Thanks for the detail, answers as follows:
- Updates for SYNC will solely be via USB, the Wi-Fi functionality will not be an option
- Dealer training is ongoing and not specific to a set period. Service Managers are the most exposed and should be able to speak to all concerns with confidence. Updates to SYNC 3 have been covered generically as the scenario for actual updates have not been in place due to there being no software to update. With the upcoming updates, the training will be accordingly updated with supporting marketing collateral updated and shared on the Dealers intranet portals
- Once the updates are available we will make the according ‘sing and dance’. Up front we have merely advised that SYNC is an updatable platform. Up until now though there has been no update to speak of and as such no promotion. Please be cognisant of the fact that these updates are not going to introduce an entirely different experience or UI look. New functionality will be added but at a very micro level.
- The intention of the update is to update SYNC 3 from version 2.3 to version 3.0. If you would like to see what this looks like then please visit a Ford dealer and look at any Trend or Titanium model of the new Fiesta or EcoSport as they are running version 3.0

Looks like progress, however, sadly, this only applies for Sync 3.
I have a 2016 Focus ST with Sync 2 which cant be updated to Sync 3 without a hardware change.
Hope Ford comes through for you on this.
I would hope they would also honor bulletins issued in the US and other countries, but alas...

Also, shouldn't these updates be carried out by Ford at every service? Or do dealerships not have the update components/PC/software/ know-how?

According to earlier posts (emails) doesnt seem like the software is available, locally, and thus no trained staff..

I just bought a new Kuga with the 8" ICE Pack. Sync3 with navigation a week ago.
This is what I could figure out so far. Navigation use HERE maps looks like 2016. Other countries you can go to https://here.navigation.com for update to maps. Not South Africa.
Voice control command does not work with Navigation as per user manual.
Still waiting answers from Ford SA.

Communications from Ford:

Good day

Please be advised with regards to your query.
As per our technical team,
  • Please note that there is no Navigation Updates at the moment, but there will be one in a near future. Can't say when?
  • The Navigation Voice Command is not available for our market. Can't say why ?
Regards

How much thy charge extra for the navigation? Or Is it standard? Bit disappointed they using HERE maps. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a dam good navigation system. I have it on my phone and it is totally free.

Ford SA says its Sync 3 system can now run Waze

Ford says Waze users in South Africa can now project the application's real-time traffic and navigation service onto the touchscreen of Ford vehicles equipped with Sync 3 AppLink and even control it via voice command.

So, how does it work? Well, you simply connect your Waze-equipped phone to the vehicle’s USB port, select the Waze app on the Sync app drawer and see the service projected onto the touchscreen.

In addition to the ability to report on heavy traffic and crashes, Ford’s integration of Waze includes recent app updates such as Talk to Waze, which lets you control the app via voice command.

Waze traffic app - now in your nearest Sync 3 equipped Ford

Waze, which is the world’s largest community-based traffic and navigation app, can now be operated via the touchscreen in Sync 3 equipped Ford vehicles.

This gives owners easier access to the app’s real-time traffic and navigation service, and it can also be operated via the car’s voice control system.

To access the app behind the wheel, owners need to plug their Waze-equipped smartphone into the car’s USB port and then select the Waze app in the Sync system’s app drawer. This must either be an iPhone with iOS 11.3 or above, or an Android device with the 5.0 operating system or higher. Owners will also need to update their Sync 3 software, which can be done by following this link.
