Foreign Income Tax Exemption

Hi guys.

Might anyone know more about the in's and outs of the above exemption?

I'm about to have my taxes submitted by a tax service, who says that the company I worked for, must re-categorise my salary as 3651 instead of 3601 before I'm able to get the benefit of tax exemption. I read some of the requirements - and it appears I comply.

Obviously, I've been outside SA for the applicable period for the work/company. And the tax has already been paid monthly to SARS by the company. Yes they're a South African company.

Does the code need to be used b4 I'm able to submit and benefit from this? What are the arguments and pros and cons? I'm struggling to have the company re-categorise it.

hi , did you come right with this? did you have to recategorize your salary code to 3651 to gain the benefit? I am in a similar situation and although i am eligible , SARS disallowed my exemption.

Only saw this now, sorry. I am assuming we are talking 180/63 here?

My suggestion is to use a tax consultant. SARS will try anything to not pay out. So getting a pro on your side helps. I did this last year and got close to half a bar back from them. It cost me R4500 for the tax consultant, which was well worth it. The ones I used actually advise SARS on this. PM me for details, if it is not too late.
